When performing interproximal reduction (IPR), Dr. Christina Carter doesn’t have to worry about taking off too much enamel, a common risk. With the ContacEZ IPR Rainbow Set from Directa, she knows just how much she’s removing—without using a gauge or a ruler.
“I’m very calibrated as to how much tooth structure I’m removing,” said Dr. Carter, who is dual trained in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, offering both services to her patients at Carter Smile in Madison, NJ. "Sometimes, based on my aligner treatment plan, I just want to remove a little bit. Being able to use different sizes allows me to work more quickly and efficiently, and to have a better workflow.”

The IPR strips take less time and are more accurate, Dr. Carter shared, and patients find the colorful strips less intimidating than others. She also prefers the Rainbow set to other options, including wheels.
“I feel like I don’t have as much control over the wheels,” she said. “And I’ve used other strips that tear, which is frustrating. Because they’re long, you have to loop them around your fi nger. There’s always the risk of catching the patient’s cheek, tongue, or gum. It can be cumbersome.”
Dr. Carter added that the flexible diamond strips slide beautifully between the teeth without having to worry about sharp edges. “I have a little bit of flex in the strip, so I can reshape and round out the corners or edges of the teeth more efficiently. They just give you beautiful contour.”
