Mucopren Soft
Permanently soft, vinyl polysiloxane relining material eases denture discomfort and is suitable for removable dentures and implants
Dentures have existed in some form for almost 3,000 years, yet they just don’t get the respect they deserve. In an industry where the latest headlines are all about lasers and implants, dentures are often pushed to the wayside. However, according to the ADA, 36 million Americans are currently edentulous, and nearly all of them wear dentures. Denture-fitting can be challenging and time-consuming for clinicians, and many denturewearers report significant discomfort. It’s the job of a skilled clinician like Gordon Fraser, DMD, a periodontist at Conyers Denture & Implant Center, Conyers, GA, to alleviate this discomfort.
“I work with dentures every day—about 20 cases a week—so I am accustomed to the tedious nature of making adjustments to eliminate patients’ discomfort,” Dr. Fraser explained. “When I have a patient that’s gone through multiple adjustments and still has discomfort, I apply a lining of Mucopren Soft, and 99.9% of the time, it's a perfect solution.”
Orthotics for the Jaw
Mucopren Soft is a permanently soft relining material from Kettenbach that’s designed for removable dentures, temporary and implant restorations, and as a solution for atrophied jaws. Based on vinyl polysiloxane, the material remains permanently soft and its smooth surface means it can be worn for long periods of time.
“When teeth are removed, peaks or spicules of bone are left in between those teeth, and they are the highest structure above or at tissue level,” explained Dr. Fraser, who has been using Mucopren Soft for about 7 years. “If patients have a hard denture on top of that and bite down, it’s like a continual pinch upon mastication. Mucopren Soft acts like a pillow, providing a soft layer of comfort that takes away that pinch,” Dr. Fraser continued. “It’s like orthotics for the jaw!”
Suitable for direct and indirect applications, Mucopren Soft can be applied in minutes and easily be processed with a scalpel or bur. The smooth, hydrophobic silicone surface offers protection against microbial contamination and the material is permanently elastic. Odorless and tasteless, Mucopren Soft has ideal adhesion so it won’t detach from the denture, and offers high tear resistance.
"Especially beneficial for patients who have gone through multiple adjustments and still have discomfort, this is my magic wand.”

The “Unadjustable Denture"
Solution “I always first try to adjust the fitting to eliminate discomfort,” Dr. Fraser explained. “Mucopren Soft is my final adjustment for what I call the ‘unadjustable denture.’ In addition to comfort, it also provides a suctioning effect with the saliva. It helps hold that lower denture in place because of the silicone-type surface tension that exists once it’s cured.”
