NeoDiamond Z-Class— A Tough Bur with Smooth Results

Durable cutters and adjusters that easily and efficiently finish zirconia restorations

Zirconia is a popular choice for restorations due to its strength and esthetics, but its virtues also present a downside—the material is difficult to cut, adjust, and refine. When it comes to the dental burs that perform those tasks, dentists often deal with fracturing under pressure or dulling out too quickly. Microcopy designed its NeoDiamond Z-Class diamond burs specifically for cutting and adjusting zirconia so that dentists won’t have to deal with such issues during procedures.

“The hardness of zirconia requires a very smooth finish to prevent excessive occlusal wear on the opposing dentition,” explained Dr. Gary Dong, DDS, of Chicago, IL. “But with the right instruments, such as the Z-Class NeoDiamond burs, dentists can perhaps even enjoy the often-dreaded zirconia adjustment process.”

Z-Class diamonds are enclosed in sterile packets designed for single-patient-use to avoid cross-contamination and encourage safer dentistry. And even though the diamonds are for use on one patient, they are of the highest quality—the power and smoothness of the bur remain until the end of the job. “They are individually packaged, disposable, and economical to use,” Dr. Dong noted.

Making Crown Placement Easier

The burs come in 10 shapes, including 7 adjusters and 3 cutters, which Dr. Dong has found advantageous. “The burs are easy to use and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, allowing all areas of a crown to be adjusted,” he said.

Dr. Dong always aims to attain smoothness and shine, and on occasion in the past, he would have to send a crown back to the lab after adjustments to achieve the desired result. With the Z-Class burs, he has been able to place and adjust crowns successfully with minimal chair time. “The burs leave a smooth surface and don’t leave any ‘burn marks.’

That makes it easy to finish polishing with the various cups and wheels,” he said, adding that patients have been happy with the natural look and feel of the crowns.

The Z-Class Adjusters can be used in combination with Microcopy’s NeoShine Zirconia Polishers. The 2-step polishers make it quick and easy to achieve a polished crown.

Dr. Kenneth Chae, DDS, a dentist in Elmwood Park, IL, also became a fan of Z-Class NeoDiamonds, lauding them for reducing chair time during adjustment and finishing of zirconia prosthesis, including crowns, bridges, and multiunit prostheses. “There is no need for improvement on this product,” he said. “I am completely satisfied.”
