As a 2nd-generation clinician, Dr. Brett Titensor is embracing innovation at every turn—with digital tools, same-day workflows, and a tech-forward new facility on the way

Dr. Brett Titensor represents a new generation of dentistry—one rooted in tradition but propelled by innovation. As the owner of Titensor Dental in Flower Mound, TX, he carries forward the legacy of his father, Dr. Steve Titensor, who established the practice in 1986. After earning his DDS from Baylor College of Dentistry in 2014, Dr. Brett joined his father in practice, gaining invaluable experience working alongside a clinician he considers one of the best in the field.

Blending his father’s clinical expertise with his own passion for digital technology, Dr. Brett has worked to elevate the patient experience through innovation. After six years as an associate, he took over the practice and began implementing digital tools from day one. His ongoing commitment to clinical excellence is reflected in the hundreds of hours of continuing education he has completed, building on his family’s legacy while transforming the practice into a modern, tech-forward environment. Now, Dr. Brett is preparing for the next chapter: the opening of a new, state-of-the-art facility with 15 operatories and an on-site training center designed to support both patient care and professional education.

Having used a succession of intraoral scanners—CEREC Bluecam, Omnicam, Primescan, and now Primescan 2—what has that evolution been like?

Bluecam was nice because you didn't have to do the gooey impression. There was still powder, so it wasn't the most comfortable experience for the patient, but it allowed us to do the same-day restoration. Images were black and white—not amazing—but got the job done. Omnicam was a game changer because it was the first scanner that I can remember producing scans in full color. And it gave us a really nice single-unit crown workflow. But when it came to full-arch, it was still lacking, and we couldn't do edentulous. So, I was still using PVS to take full-arch impressions or for my veneer cases. Then, Primescan came out and that was the first scanner I ever used that could take a full-arch impression within just a couple minutes and be super accurate and detailed. That thing was amazing.

Once you can take a full-arch impression, that opens the door to almost any aspect of dentistry. Now, we were doing night guards, sleep apnea, clear aligners...There's so much you can do when you have the power of full arch. And we could even do edentulous, making our denture workflows more streamlined and easier.

How did Primescan 2 build upon those advancements?

It took all of those huge benefits from Primescan—those amazing, detailed, full-arch scans with the seamless software that CEREC provided—and just made everything better. Primescan is bigger, it has a cord, and it's usually attached to a cart or a laptop, so it would sit in one or two of the operatories in our office.

Primescan 2 gave us the ability to take a full-arch impression at any second and in any chair in our office. That is awesome, because so many things that are productive in really hanging our patients’ lives—whether it's clear aligners or crowns or implants—start with the scan. So Primescan 2, providing that access to a scanner at any chair at any time has been amazing. I love that it's wireless, and with its integration with DS Core, I can access those scans anywhere that has an internet connection.

How will this technology play a role in the new office you’re planning to open in 2026?

We're really building it from the ground up around the whole idea of connecting with the patient. I think it'll be a truly unique dental experience that hasn't been done before. And technology like Primescan 2 was created for an office like that, because when you have 15 ops spread out over a large space, it's just not realistic to roll a cart around or even to carry a laptop. The convenience and the mobility of Primescan 2 is almost essential to this type of operation. Even in our current 6-op office, the ability to take a scan anywhere is convenient, but it’s especially going to shine in a bigger, more spread-out office.

How does DS Core help you connect more with patients?

A good dentist, historically, has always been able to connect with their patients when they're in the office, but there was no outside connection. You could show the patient some amazing photos and scans, discuss treatment, and they're all on board, but they need to go talk to their spouse. Most dentists will send that patient home with just a big number. You’ve lost the connection. With DS Core’s Communication Canvas, I'm able to connect with my patients outside of the dental office for the first time, which to me is super exciting. That's the world we live in now. We have a cell phone in our pockets everywhere we go, and a big part of having a relationship with someone we’re doing business with is that ability to connect with them where they are.

So, I can take a scan on a patient and I can share it to their cell phone before they leave my office and they can pull that up and show their spouse. They can have that digital reminder, whether it’s a photo, a full-arch scan or a cone-beam scan—nobody leaves the practice with just a number.

The Canvas is not just a very powerful tool for case presentation—I also use it for virtual consults. Patients will send in their photos and tell me what they're looking for, and I put that into Canvas with other cases that I've done similar to theirs, and then I just film a quick video of me walking through, “Hey, here are your options. Let me help you with your smile journey.” It’s really helpful for your case presentation.

What have your patients thought about your ability to produce appliances with Primeprint and mill same-day restorations with CEREC Primemill?

Today, people are used to quick delivery. Think Amazon Prime—they want this product and they want it tomorrow or even today. Whether that’s good or bad for society, it just is the world we live in. So, there is some dissonance when they can get a brand-new TV delivered the next day, but they have to wait 2 months for a night guard. So, it’s almost becoming a necessity to have these workflows. There are amazing doctors out there who are going to start losing more and more patients to practices that can deliver something more efficiently and with a better patient experience. Patients are more aware, more educated, and they are actively seeking out practices that have the technology to do these things.

For what types of cases are you using your Primeprint Solution?

We do a lot of implant dentistry, and since we got Primeprint we’ve done strictly guided surgery, because the workflow to 3D print a surgical guide on Primeprint is so streamlined and so easy. We also produce a lot of night guards. Before the Primeprint, it wasn't the best experience with night guards—it would take months to get them back from the lab, and if you needed adjustments, you had to send it back. It was frustrating. But now, if a patient comes in having TMJ pain, I can tell them about this really cool muscle relaxer/deprogrammer that we can make to get them out of pain. Rather than saying, “You're going to feel amazing in 2 months when it gets here,” I can tell them that I will have it this afternoon. That’s really transformational when it comes to the patient experience.

We’re also now 3D printing dentures, which has helped our whole edentulous and implant-retained workflows. I can't imagine very many dentists love that workflow with the amount of appointments and impressions, so to be able to cut the steps down has been very helpful. So, our assistants are trained on Primeprint and it is basically running every day in the background.

A great place for people to check out this technology for themselves is Dentsply Sirona World. What makes that show special for you?

The first DS World I went to was CEREC 25 when I was a dental student. It was such a cool experience to see so many likeminded dentists come together with that vision of just wanting to improve dentistry, embracing technology, embracing the future, and really pushing the boundaries. I've gone every year since, and it's a great way to network, collaborate, and feel like you're part of something greater than just your solo practice, because I think a lot of dentists feel like they’re on an island sometimes. And I wouldn't be in this position today if it wasn't for events like DS World that provide a vision of what's possible in dentistry.

As one of this year’s main-stage speakers, what will you be presenting on?

I will be talking about connected dentistry and the digital implant workflow. I went all in on implant dentistry—we place a lot of implants—and the reason we’re so successful is because of the workflows that Dentsply Sirona has provided. They’ve allowed me to take on more complex cases, full-arch implant cases, anterior esthetic zone cases, things that I wouldn’t have thought were possible 10 years ago. Technology makes the impossible possible and gives you the confidence needed to bring more dentistry to your practice and open up access to care to more patients.
