SonicFill 3 lets dentists restore even large posterior cavities in fewer steps, with esthetics that blend beautifully and results that last for years to come
Dr. Robin Henderson has been using SonicFill to “efficiently accomplish” posterior restorations for over 10 years. During that time, the Clarkston, WA, clinician has appreciated several things about the sonic-activated bulk-fill composite.
“First, I am confident I will not have a void in my restoration due to the sonic frequency at placement,” she explained. “Secondly, I can place a posterior resin so much faster when I use SonicFill 3, and finally, because I have used SonicFill for more than a decade, I can speak to the dependability of the 5-mm depth of cure—I see these restorations hold up for many years.”
Quick Placement, Excellent Esthetics
SonicFill 3 provides improved adaptation to internal walls and restoration margins, as well as simple extrusion using a SonicFill handpiece.
Dr. Henderson noted that as materials have improved, she's become "much more conservative" with her dentistry. She now feels confident using SonicFill 3 for very large restorations, when in the past she would have opted for an onlay or a crown.
SonicFill 3 is currently her go-to choice for Class I and II posterior fillings. “I enjoy sculpting resin to disappear into the tooth structure, and I can achieve this readily with SonicFill 3,” she said. “If I do any contouring afterward, it is easy to shape and polish. I can still get the esthetic results I’m looking for with a material that holds up nicely over time, while also using the most efficient delivery method.”
A Smooth Finish
New Jersey dentist Derek Noonan, DMD, had used SonicFill 2 in the past, and after trying SonicFill 3, immediately appreciated its formulation, which he said was softer and easier to condense.
“The finish is also much smoother, and the shade seems to blend better and is less opaque than SonicFill 2,” Dr. Noonan added. “It has changed the way I restore posterior Class II restorations by allowing 4- to 5-mm incremental layering, which greatly improves efficiency.”
A recent Class II on tooth No. 3 was the perfect chance for Dr. Noonan to put SonicFill 3 to the test: “The proximal box was deep and wide, and I was able to restore the entire prep with only SonicFill 3, eliminating a base/liner layer and final layer. Both workflow and chair time were improved.”
He felt SonicFill 3 dispensed quickly and smoothly, similar to a bulk-fill base material. “During adaptation, the composite begins to get more firm, allowing for condensation—a huge advantage!” he noted. “The A2 shade has great esthetics, and it polishes nicely."
