As clinicians, we are pressed for time in the busy day of serving patients, yet we want to do all we can to provide optimal care for each patient during the appointment time. That includes the early detection of head and neck, oral, and oropharyngeal cancers, or other conditions. Dental hygienists and dentists often report not feeling completely confident when performing the Visual and Tactile, Intraoral, and Extraoral evaluation/EOIO. Practice and consistently performing any procedure leads to confidence and efficiency. Utilizing Susan’s instructional screening videos, we will review a thorough EOIO, and discuss components of the oropharyngeal evaluation, and review ADA and ADHA oral cancer policies.
