Parkell: CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF QUALITY PRODUCTS
Parkell has earned a reputation around the world for the design and manufacture of innovative, premium-quality dental materials and equipment
For 75 years, Parkell has been a manufacturer of high-quality, top-performing dental devices and materials. Since its inception, the company has become renowned the world over as a go-to supplier of innovative, reliable solutions that enhance clinical practice. Parkell attributes its continued success to flagship product lines such as Blu-Mousse, Cinch, and Dryz, as well as other popular offerings such as the Sensimatic, TurboSENSOR, Burnett Power-Tip, and the Predicta Bioactive line of materials.
Parkell products are designed and manufactured on Long Island, NY, where the company has been headquartered since its founding in 1948. In 2023, Parkell will be celebrating their 75th anniversary of designing and manufacturing innovative, premium-quality, and internationally recognized dental materials and equipment.
A Commitment to Innovation
Parkell’s long-standing commitment to reliability and innovation has allowed the company to grow with its customers over the years. Their products are a mainstay at dental schools with progressive educational programs, enabling the company to build rapport with dental practitioners as students and support them through the entirety of their professional careers.
The Right Partnership
In late 2016, Parkell joined forces with another internationally recognized leader in dental manufacturing, the Sweden-based DirectaDentalGroup. Together, Parkell and Directa bring to the table nearly 200 years of research and development, and manufacturing experience.
According to Parkell, the union of the 2 companies “seemed nothing less than the right decision” given their similarities with regard to business philosophy and commitment to outstanding customer care. In Parkell’s words, their products and Directa’s “truly complement one another,” and the partnership equates to more product choices for customers and, ultimately, more opportunities to provide better care to patients. The following are examples of the latest innovations from Parkell:
Brush&Bond MAX
Building on decades of success with Brush&Bond, Brush&Bond MAX is a next-generation bonding agent that provides stronger adhesion and higher bond strengths, so clinicians can feel more confident in their ability to deliver restorations that can withstand the test of time with no post-op sensitivity.
Brush&Bond MAX’s Touch Application technique eliminates the need to scrub the prep, providing consistent, even, and complete coverage of the entire prep surface. This easy application process helps ensure maximum adhesion between the tooth and the restorative, while virtually eliminating post-op sensitivity. The simplified Touch Application technique is an alternative to the scrubbing step needed when applying many other bonding agents to the prep surface, some of which require up to 20 to 30 seconds of active scrubbing.
Predicta Bioactive Cement
A universal resin cement, Predicta Bioactive Cement combines the benefits of bioactivity with the favorable properties and performance of other premium universal resin cements. Predicta Bioactive Cement’s ability to help protect crown margins from secondary carries results from its ability to produce a dense hydroxyapatite formation at the crown margin, which aids in filling and sealing the vulnerable microgap.
Available in 2 shades (translucent and A2), Predicta Bioactive Cement is a self-adhesive, self-etching, dual-cure resin cement that contains MDP for strong bonds to zirconia. Indicated for luting crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and posts, Predicta Bioactive Cement releases calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions and offers no postop sensitivity for patients.
In a recent DPS product review, Predicta Bioactive Cement earned a Best Product award from a team of dentist evaluators. Craig Aebli, DDS, said the product “made placing crowns easy and predictable,” and David Fang, DMD, declared that Predicta Bioactive Cement “met all requisites perfectly.
TURBOSENSOR+
The new TurboSensor+ ultrasonic scaler combines the reliability and performance of its trusted predecessor, the TurboSensor, with exciting new features that enhance the scaling experience in today’s demanding work environment. Built around a new IntelliSense processor, the TurboSensor+ ensures top-level, consistent performance with all market-leading 30K inserts. The TurboSensor+ features a new detachable, autoclavable 30K handpiece for enhanced reprocessing, cleanliness, and disinfection.
The TurboSensor+ ultrasonic scaler is offered in a variety of vibrant colors (including, pearl, midnight blue, tangerine, lilac, and electric blue) to complement the style and personality of every office. As with all Parkell devices, the TurboSensor+ is designed, manufactured, and serviced in the USA.
Predicta Bioactive Desensitizer
By using elements found naturally in teeth, Parkell’s Predicta Bioactive Desensitizer aims to change the way clinicians treat dentin hypersensitivity. Syringe-dispensed and requiring no mixing, this desensitizer gel is exceptionally easy to use: Simply remove any calculus or plaque from the treatment site, blot the area dry with a cotton roll or gauze, and apply. Predicta Bioactive Desensitizer goes to work quickly, blocking open tubules with hydroxyapatite plugs containing calcium and phosphate. Afterward, calcium and phosphate ions are continually released over time, prompting mineralization that further seals tubules against hypersensitivity.
For added patient comfort, the gel is highly biocompatible, as no methacrylates or soft-tissue irritating chemicals are used during production.
Predicta Bioactive Desensitizer is indicated for a range of applications, including exposed roots after periodontal surgery, bleaching procedures, scaling and root planing, and hypersensitivity caused by gingival recession. Predicta Bioactive Desensitizer received high praise from Dental Product Shopper evaluators, who named it a Best Product. After using the product for several weeks in his practice, Rory Sprouse, DMD, said, “It speeds up the process of thermal sensitivity improvement significantly.”
When Helen K. Lester, DDS, FAGD, AFAAID, of Eugene, OR, realized that Predicta Bioactive Desensitizer truly changed her patient’s life, she decided, “It doesn’t get better than this!” She now offers Predicta Bioactive Desensitizer as a regular treatment for patients with dentin hypersensitivity. “To reduce or eliminate patient discomfort is a significant boost for my patients. This product delivers!”
Predicta Bioactive Bulk
A universal dual-cure composite, Predicta Bioactive Bulk is designed to fill any size cavity preparation, all the way up to the occlusal surface, without the need for additional layering. This highly radiopaque material is strong and durable enough to withstand occlusal forces and still ensure excellent esthetics with a range of shade options and high polishability. In addition, bioactive capabilities mean the material offers beneficial calcium and phosphate ion release alongside fluoride ion release and recharge.
Predicta Bioactive Bulk is available in 2 viscosities to match your individual restorative needs and preferences. Regular (or high viscosity) is ideally suited for placing larger restorations where stability is desired but material drift is not, while the low viscosity (LV) option is recommended for more conservative preps where the ability to flow and self-level into tighter spaces is preferred. According to Parkell, however, both Regular and LV Predicta Bioactive Bulk versions are versatile enough for use in all restorative situations.
Predicta Bioactive Core
With added zirconia to improve the prepping experience, Predicta Bioactive Core is a dual-cure composite optimized for core buildups and post cementation. This material offers strong, stable support for crowns made of zirconia, porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and metal while delivering natural esthetics thanks to the availability of white and tooth shades.
Predicta Bioactive Core comes in 2 versatile viscosities, which, according to Parkell can be used across all core buildup and post cementation indications. The Stackable (high viscosity) version of the material helps minimize crown-prepping time, create larger core buildups where stackability results in a more centralized core, and achieve less excess in areas that would require removal during prepping. On the other hand, Flowable (low viscosity) Predicta Bioactive Core is ideal for cases where post cementation and core buildups are completed together, as this option promotes better canal adaptation and less hydrostatic resistance during seating of the post into the canal.
Like other bioactive products from Parkell, Predicta Bioactive Core releases and recharges helpful ions, including calcium, phosphate, and fluoride.
Dryz Blu
When it comes to quick, easy control over the bleeding and crevicular fluid seepage that interferes with impression taking, Parkell provides an invaluable solution in Dryz Blu. In addition to impression taking, Dryz Blu is optimized for tissue management in a range of clinical situations including restorations with subgingival decay, permanent restoration seating, rubber dam placement, and isolation prior to tooth whitening. Dryz Blu is also compatible with most popular retraction techniques and materials, including compression caps, retraction cord, electrosurgery, and lasers.
From placement to rinsing, the entire process of using Dryz Blu takes under 2 minutes—less than it takes some clinicians to pack a cord around a single tooth. Dryz also allows clinicians to take control of the sulcus for picture-perfect digital impressions. When the prep is flawless, dentists want their digital scanner to easily capture every detail. Parkell’s Dryz soft-tissue management paste helps dentists do that. This easy-to-use material fits comfortably into the workflow of every digital dentist, providing that extra push for clearing the field of unwanted obstacles, so clinicians can quickly obtain an accurate and complete digital impression every time.
Blu-Mousse
Since its introduction over 20 years ago, Parkell’s Blu-Mousse has become the bite registration material of choice for many discerning dental clinicians. Thanks to its ability to precisely capture the interocclusal relationship, Blu-Mousse allows dental labs to deliver crowns that frequently need minimal or no occlusal adjustment, making the clinician’s job more efficient.
The easy-to-use material stays stacked on the occlusal surface during placement but remains light and fluffy to allow the patient to passively close without resistance into maximum intercuspation (centric occlusion). BluMousse ultimately hardens to a plasterlike final set with a durometer of 90 that ensures precise articulations and will not distort or break between bite registration and model articulation.
Blu-Mousse is available in 3 different set times: 30 seconds, 60 seconds, and 2 minutes. In addition, BluMousse is a vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) material, which makes it suitable for several additional clinical applications, including use in scanning, as a matrix for fabricating direct and indirect provisionals, and as a rigid base for Mach-VPS die and study models.
