Pro-Matrix
SINGLE USE, PREASSEMBLED MATRIX BANDS FROM MEDICOM ARE IDEAL FOR BOTH AMALGAM AND COMPOSITE FILLINGS AND RESTORATIONS OF ALL SIZES
|
Medicom’s Pro-Matrix is a next-generation matrix band designed to meet the evolving needs of dentistry, including simplifying procedures through easier placement and improved visibility. Available in two sizes, 6 mm and 4.5 mm, the Pro-Matrix has a sliding band deflector and smooth tightening mechanism. Dr. Yahya Mansour has been relying on this product for Class II restorations for the past several years. Here, he explains how the Pro-Matrix meets specific needs in his practice and shares some practical tips for using it.
We needed a product that was fast, predictable, and easy to use for our Class II restorations. We emphasize quality and speed, so we need something that will deliver both every time. All the other circumferential matrix products we tried were cumbersome, or it took a long time to apply. The other issue we experienced was that sometimes patients, especially kids, would freak out when they saw a big metal appliance moving toward their mouth. Pro-Matrix solves this problem because it’s a “cute” little plastic device that’s colored and easy to use. You just slip it on and twist, and you’re good to go. I like how the Pro-Matrix band comes preassembled, and it’s already attached to the holder. All you have to do is slide it in and turn. They’re available in 2 sizes, and we use both. The wider blue ones are used for permanent molars, while the narrower green ones are used for pedo teeth and premolars. They’re single-patient use, so the cleanup is easy. There have been many cases in which the Pro-Matrix band was critical to clinical outcomes. For instance, sometimes you have a freestanding tooth and there’s no adjacent tooth, so you really can’t use a sectional matrix; you need the Pro-Matrix. In other cases, we’ve used this product to do back-to-back Class II MOD (mesiooccluso-distal) restorations. The Pro-Matrix always delivers great results.
Clinical Tips If you’re doing back-to-back restorations using the Pro-Matrix, fill one and then burnish the second one against the first one before you fill the second one. You’ll get much better contacts every time if you do it this way. Some dentists just fill both at the same time, but because of some shrinkage, they might have an open contact. My other tip is to gently slide the matrix band under the gum line and to make sure the Pro-Matrix’s little lever is always switched to the gum line.
