JOSHUA BEVANS, DDS

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Dr. Bevans graduated from the University of the Pacific School, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 2008. As a new graduate, he had the opportunity to work for a skilled dentist who mentored him in hard- and softtissue laser therapy, cosmetic dentistry, and Invisalign. Dr. Bevans is trained to do neuroinhibitors, dermal fillers, radiofrequency, and IPL as adjunctive cosmetic and therapeutic procedures. He has spent the latter half of his career learning these cutting-edge procedures to help patients look and feel their best. He is a national trainer for Denta-Spa seminars, helping dentists all over the country learn these procedures to enhance their practices and patient care. He is a member and faculty of the International Academy of Facial Esthetics and a member of Crown Council, American Academy of Facial Esthetics, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

V-Series

All-in-one platform uses radiofrequency to enable a variety of chairside facial esthetic and TMJ treatments

Viora Med’s V-Series is a multi-modality platform that allows dentists to offer a variety of facial esthetic and TMJ treatments—including skin tightening, facial contouring, and pigmented lesion removal—all with a single device. Here, Dr. Joshua Bevans shares how the V20 Multi-Technology console and its attachable handpieces allow him to "wow" his patients while bolstering new revenue streams for his practice.

As dentists venture outside of the dentition and into the esthetic realm of the face, they typically begin with dermal fillers and neuromodulators like Botox. However, these procedures are unable to treat the quality of the skin, such as pigmented lesions or sunspots. That’s why the V-IPL Handpiece—part of the V-Series multi-modality platform offered by Viora Med—is one of the best antiaging procedures that I can offer to my patients, especially geriatric patients or younger sunworshipers, to give the skin a more consistent and uniform color.

The V-IPL also is used to treat small vascular lesions commonly found in the cheek and nose area. The radiofrequency allows for a controlled thermal injury that induces the production of collagen and elastin, making it a proven and effective method of firming and tightening the dermis. One of the newer treatments the V-Series offers is the V-FR Handpiece, a more aggressive fractional radiofrequency ideal for patients who want great results in less time. It is one of the best and most effective treatments to improve skin texture over a painful laser or chemical peel.

Instant TMJ Relief

V-Series technology allows for a very controlled use of radiofrequency that targets and delivers energy to the temporomandibular joint and muscles of mastication, as well as other common muscles that contribute to dysfunction.

What makes this treatment stand out is its ability to give the patient instant relief, as opposed to conventional approaches like occlusal appliances or neuromuscular medications that require time. I’ve found it to be invaluable for patients who present with acute onset of TMJ symptoms, as it gets them out of the pain cycle that may lead them to TMD. As dentists, we know the complexity of the TMJ and occlusion, so it’s nice to have a safe, easy, and effective tool in the mix to "wow" my patient base.

Setting the Practice Apart

After bringing these modalities into the practice, the beauty of the V20 platform is that over a dozen procedures can be performed by my assistant with virtually no overhead. Viora Med is ADA CERP recognized and offers various CE courses on technology based facial esthetics. My staff and I learned everything in one weekend—the didactic side of the technology as well as the several treatment protocols offered by the V20 system. The onboarding process got my staff excited, and they were more than happy to try the procedures on each other and become walking billboards for my patients. This, along with sharing patient results on social media, has created new and exciting revenue streams for my practice
