Oral-B iO Series 9 Toothbrush

An electric toothbrush that caters to all patients with its
Smart Modes and an app that tracks their brushing habits

Suzanne Setayesh, DDS, had a diffi cult time fi nding an electric toothbrush she felt was gentle enough on her sensitive teeth—that is, until she experienced the Oral-B iO Series 9 electric toothbrush. Now, she loves the brush so much that she wants to shout her recommendation from the rooftops. Here, Dr. Setayesh explains why she loves using the brush on her own teeth, as well as recommending it to her patients.

I always thought that as a dentist, I was doing a great job brushing my teeth. I assumed that I was brushing long enough and with the right amount of pressure. In reality, I wasn't brushing for the recommended 2 minutes and used too much pressure in some areas. Ever since I started using my Oral-B iO Series 9 electric toothbrush, I can really see a difference. Thanks to features such as the built-in 2-minute quadrant timer that pulsates every 30 seconds, and the smart pressure sensor light that indicates when I'm brushing too hard or not hard enough, I know I am giving my mouth a thorough cleaning.

The dentist-inspired round brush head expertly cleans with gentle micro-vibrations and oscillating rotation. This brush feels great on my teeth and gums—much more enjoyable than my past electric toothbrush experiences. Plus, the brush is small enough that cleaning posterior teeth is easy.

The Oral-B iO Series 9 has 7 Smart Modes for personalized brushing: Daily Clean, Whitening, Gum Care, Sensitive, Intense, Super Sensitive, and Tongue Clean. Personally, I use the Super Sensitive mode every time I brush and it’s been amazing.

A Great Recommendation for Patients

I've been sharing my experience with my patients and recommending the Oral-B iO brush to them. In these conversations, I let them know that even though I’m a dentist, I still found that my brushing habits could be improved once I started using this toothbrush.

Using Bluetooth, the brush connects to the Oral-B app to track my brushing habits. I tell my patients that I didn't realize that I was brushing too hard in certain areas, which can cause gingival recessions and sensitivity, but the toothbrush’s Smart Pressure Sensor notifies me when this happens.

The app keeps your oral health on track by using highly sophisticated 3D brushing recognition and AI technology to assess your brushing behaviors across the 16 zones in your mouth. The brush has helped me realize that I'm brushing my molars a little more than I'm brushing my premolars.

At the end of your brushing, the app tells you what areas you missed. I like to have my phone right next to me so that I can see the brushing report the app creates. Afterward, it gives me a score based on my brushing.

A User-Friendly Experience

Patients can track brushing habits and find out what areas they need to concentrate on more. I'm not a technology-savvy person, but I found this app to be very user-friendly. If you don't have this brush, I highly recommend it.
