A fast-acting, minimally invasive periodontal therapy, PerioDT liquid or gel assists with debridement and removal of plaque, calculus, and biofilm present in periodontal pockets and surrounding surfaces

According to the ADA, roughly 42% of U.S. adults 30 years of age and older have periodontitis, which requires frequent scaling and root planing procedures to remove plaque and calculus from below the gumline. Yet, despite clinicians' best efforts, residual biofilm continues to form in periodontal pockets. To add insult to injury, post-treatment bacterial counts have the potential to reach pretreatment levels after just 1 week.

Essentially, periodontal debridement is a temporary solution to the ongoing biofilm problem. By embracing Young Specialties’ newest periodontal therapy, PerioDT, clinicians can eliminate nearly all destructive biofilm buildup while improving patients’ long-term periodontal healing.

Revolutionizing Periodontal Care

PerioDT is a topical dental debridement medicament intended for use as an adjunct to nonsurgical periodontal therapies. It is safe to use as a decontamination rinse on enamel, dentin, and prosthetic surfaces to help remove the microbial smear layer and contaminated debris.

“I have seen gum tissue that has been problematic and bloody at every visit for years, all of a sudden become pink and healthy once I’ve added PerioDT to the treatment regimen,” said Ankur Gupta, DDS, who practices in North Ridgeville, OH.

A Fast-Acting Solution

PerioDT is available in both gel and liquid viscosities, which can be used interchangeably based on clinicians’ preferences. It employs a simple, fast-acting Desiccation Technology (DT) to remove water from infectious microbial material, dead cellular debris, and other macromolecules found around the tooth and prosthetic surfaces in the oral cavity. This process occurs less than 1 minute after PerioDT makes contact with the infectious materials.

A 1-mL, single-patient-use syringe of PerioDT contains enough liquid or gel to treat a full arch pre- and post-scaling and root planing. PerioDT’s red color also makes it easy to see where the gel or liquid has been placed.

“It is hard to imagine my ability to effectively practice dentistry without PerioDT," Dr. Gupta said. “This is such a go-to tool whenever I am faced with any periodontal pocket around a tooth or implant that is just impossible to keep clean with home care and maintenance. The results have been incredible!”
