Making practice ownership dreams a reality, The Aspen Group provides dentists with training, support, and a fast-track path to achieve their career goals

 

 

Who says dreams can’t come true? Everyone has dreams, but in many cases we accept that they'll never become reality. Well, not in this case. The husband and wife team of Dr. Andrew De La Rosa and Dr. Lauren McDonough met in dental school and quickly realized they shared a common dream of practice ownership. And that’s where The Aspen Group (TAG) comes in. Partnering with TAG made that dream a reality.

 

TAG supports more than 1,100 Aspen Dental-branded dental locations across the country. While helping dentists provide comprehensive care to patients is the company’s top goal, TAG also provides education, support, and mentoring to dentists. While both dentists have since segued into directing Aspen Dental support programs, it was Aspen Dental who helped mold them into successful practice owners.

 

Fast Track to Ownership

 

“I always wanted to become a practice owner,” explained Dr. McDonough. “After graduating, I figured it would take us about 5 years to gain the clinical competence and equity necessary to take the leap to practice ownership. With Aspen Dental, we were able to do that a year after graduation!”

Dr. McDonough believes the operational support from Aspen Dental advisors allowed her to focus on building clinical and leadership skills, while ensuring the practice continued to remain healthy.

 

“Aspen provided the infrastructure and practice management support that enabled us to build high-performing dental practices in less than a year and focus on being dentists without the headaches of running a business,” Dr. De La Rosa shared.

 

Mentorship & Growth Opportunities

 

As Aspen’s VP of Clinical Support, Dr. De La Rosa points to the mentorship and growth opportunities provided by the New Doctors Journey program—a resource that dentists may not find at a private practice. “A young dentist will receive clinical training in fields such as surgery, implants, removable and fixed prosthodontics, and orthodontics. They'll also receive training that most don't realize they need such as case presentation, practice management KPIs, productive scheduling, team leadership, and communication skills,” he said.

 

“Along with the impressive learning and development team of experts, we offer a plethora of programs with hands-on and practical application skills, so dentists leave programs energized and equipped to return to their practices and bring better care to more people,” added Dr. McDonough, who is Aspen Dental's VP of Practice Owner Development.

 

“Let’s be honest: no one prepares you for how to run a practice and manage a team,” said Dr. De La Rosa. “Without support from Aspen, we would never have grown to own 6 high-functioning practices.”
