Ideal clinical outcomes for the patient and clinician
“I liked the core material that I had used for many years,” Dr. Terry O’Keefe of Penfield, NY, told Dental Product Shopper in 2015. But when he was introduced to BISCO’s CORE-FLO DC Lite 2 years ago, he found that this versatile material was “an improvement in every area that is important to me.” We recently caught up with Dr. O’Keefe to see if he still enjoys using CORE-FLO DC Lite.
DPS: Are you still using CORE-FLO DC Lite in your practice?
Terry O’Keefe, DDS: I do still use COREFLO DC Lite—and I still love it. I use it regularly, so thank you for the introduction to this great product.
DPS: What features are important when selecting a core material?
Dr. O’Keefe: The properties that I find important in a core material are:
1. The material needs to be easily/quickly mixed and placed in small tight areas. There is usually not a great deal of space between the remaining tooth structure and post, so this is important to me, and CORE-FLO DC Lite meets this nicely.
2. Once placed, the material must stay put (no slumping) and allow me to contour it slightly to the shape I desire. Again, COREFLO DC Lite stays where I put it and I can push-pull it to shape.
3. The choice of shades (white and dentin) are nice for esthetic needs with all-ceramic (CEREC) crowns.
4. Core materials must set quickly and thoroughly without needing light activation, but they need to have the option of complete light cure and tack curing for volume placement. When I need a large core, I can place CORE-FLO DC Lite in smaller volumes, have my assistant tack cure it, and continue while maintaining the shape I am after.
5. All core placements need to be able to be cut to complete the preparation for scanning or impressioning. The material has to feel like dentin; otherwise, you will dig into areas of dissimilar denseness. I think this is still my favorite property of CORE-FLO DC Lite. Having a smooth, even preparation is highly important with scanning for CEREC, and this material is great here.
DPS: Did the product impact your practice as a whole?
Dr. O’Keefe: CORE-FLO DC Lite is my “go-to” core material. Using it has made my crown and bridge appointments that need a pin or post core buildup efficient
