Hydrophilic impression material provides a longer working time, shorter setting time, and more accurate impressions on the first bite

Nobody in the dental office likes retaking impressions. Tossing out impression material because of marginal tears is not only a waste of time and money, but it also adds to patient discomfort because they’re stuck spending more time in the chair with a tray in their mouth.

When a team of dentists evaluated Ultradent’s Thermo Clone for Dental Product Shopper in 2017, each used it in their preferred viscosity—light, medium, or heavy body—in either the 380 mL jumbo or 50 mL cartridges. They tested the material on everything from Invisalign to crown-and-bridge implant impressions, giving high marks to the accuracy of their impressions and the fit of the final restorations.

Among the features that prompted evaluators to rate Thermo Clone a DPS Best Product—an expanded, 1 minute and 30 second working time, and a bubble gum scent and flavor that patients appreciate.

One evaluator, Dr. Andrew Chen, lauded Thermo Clone for its working parameters. “I like the fact that I have the working time allowed, and once it’s in the mouth, the material will start setting and cut down on the time our patients need to have those materials in their mouths.”

Dr. Michael Micallef agreed, noting that because of Thermo Clone’s fast setting time, his few patients with strong gag reflexes had no issues with the material. This quicker setting time is due to what Ultradent calls Thermal-Accelerated Set—as the material’s temperature increases in the mouth, the setting time decreases, also reducing the chance of distortion.

Thermo Clone’s vibrant colors were also a hit with our dentist evaluators. “The quality of the impressions was excellent, and the color made reading margins easy,” said Dr. Michael Szymanski.
