WITH DYAN JAYJACK, SENIOR MANAGER OF STRATEGIC INITIATIVES AT HENRY SCHEIN PROREPAIR

Q: How does ProRepair play into the way Henry Schein builds and designs new handpieces?

A: Because most of the people on the product development team from ProRepair have at least 15 years of experience in handpiece repair and handpiece repair parts development, we have accumulated a large amount of knowledge on how clinicians use, care for, and repair their handpieces, regardless of brand. This allows us to bring a unique perspective to the design process.

Q: How would you describe clinicians’ reaction to the upgraded Precision Torque 2 handpiece?

A: A number of dentists have been pleasantly surprised with not just the performance of the Precision Torque 2, but also with its light weight. We’ve heard this specifically from dentists who have experienced various types of wrist and hand pain or discomfort. They are pleased to have a handpiece that produces 16.5 W of power—but weighs only 27 to 29 grams—only slightly heavier than one AA battery.

Q: Tell us about the esthetic improvements to Henry Schein’s handpiece maintenance systems.

A: Many times, handpiece maintenance machines and other small equipment are located in an area of the office that patients may see on their way to and from the operatory. Here at Henry Schein, we want to develop products that are not just functional, but also modern and attractive. As a result, we designed the Maxima XTEND Maintenance System with a soft, purple-tinted window and carbon fiber trim. The purged cleaner and debris are suctioned into an easy-access tray at the bottom of the machine so that it is not visible when the door is opened, and the tray liners can be easily disposed of without having to pick them up by hand.
