VOCO Retraction Paste is effective and easy to use, improving the patient experience and saving time

Gary Radz has used retraction paste for more than 20 years, and while the product category has significantly improved over time, he was always on the lookout for better options. He doesn’t have to look anymore. He finally found his go-to when he tried VOCO Retraction Paste a few years back.

Everyone Can Use It

What makes this retraction paste different? It’s easy to place, he said, and the consistency makes handling a breeze. It’s also something his assistants can use; they don’t have to pull him away from another operatory because they need him to help stop a patient from bleeding. The retraction paste gives them the tools they need to do it themselves, improving efficiencies.

His assistants typically use the retraction paste before taking an impression, Dr. Radz said, and when delivering crowns or veneers. The tissue is often irritated and bleeding after a temporary is removed, and that can negatively impact bond strength.

With VOCO Retraction Paste, assistants can easily stop the bleeding, giving Dr. Radz a clean fi eld to bond restorations in place.

“When they’re taking an impression or we’re delivering a crown, if there’s an area where the tissue is bleeding, they know they can use the retraction paste to get it under control before I even walk into the room,” Dr. Radz said. “They don’t have to come find me; they just do it themselves.”

Great for Patients

VOCO Retraction Paste is particularly good for digital impressions, Dr. Radz said, as it provides just the right amount of retraction. Assistants can capture the margin faster with retraction paste than with retraction cord, and it’s easier for them to place. It’s also more comfortable for patients.

“Often, retraction cord creates physical trauma to the tissue, which means the patient will be uncomfortable during the procedure and sore after you’re done,” Dr. Radz explained. “While retraction cord works well, patients don’t like it. Retraction paste is atraumatic and more comfortable for them, and they won’t be sore after the procedure.”

Quick, Easy, and Comfortable

Not all retraction pastes are created equal. They all have different handling properties, Dr. Radz said, and he finds the viscosity of VOCO Retraction Paste fits best with his technique.

The other advantage is its bright turquoise color, which is easier to spot during removal for quick and easy cleanup.

“It certainly saves me time because it’s effective, and it’s a product my assistants can use successfully without me in the room,” Dr. Radz shared. “It’s quick and easy to use, and it’s more comfortable for patients than retraction cord.”
