Simplifying the Art of Composite Layering

LM-Arte Solo instruments designed specifically for the anterior and posterior offer greater flexibility, efficiency, and precision in your composite restoration procedures

Composite layering can be tedious and sensitive work for dentists, which means that the tools used to shape and contour these restorations are crucial to an esthetic outcome. To the rescue are two standout stars within the LM-Arte portfolio of instruments: the LM-Arte Solo Anterior and LM-Arte Solo Posterior. Designed specifically for composite layering, the instruments have a lightweight design that makes them ergonomic and easy to maneuver. The LM-Arte Solo Anterior features rounded and straight spatulas ideally suited for labial surface modeling, while the LM-Arte Solo Posterior has a sharp end for contouring occlusal surface anatomy and a plugger end for bulk filling and modeling.

A Well-Balanced Solution for Lifelike Restorations

Dr. Virginia McMillan of John Day, OR, has enjoyed getting to know her LM-Arte instruments immensely. “I had looked forward to trying these because my previous instruments were starting to wear and I needed a replacement,” she explained. “I tried the LM-Arte instruments and they have an amazing flexibility without becoming deformed when you apply pressure.”

As a clinician who greatly enjoys the art of composite tooth recreation and creating restorations that are as lifelike as possible, Dr. McMillan shared that the LM-Arte Solo Anterior and Posterior instruments are more balanced and flexible than any other instrument she has used in her career. “You can use just your wrist and a slight finger motion to apply the composite into the preparation, very delicately or very firmly, depending on what kind of pressure you’re placing on the composite for the final result,” she shared. “The instruments are very responsive and they’re not too heavy and not too light—very well balanced.”

Two Instruments = Increased Efficiency

By using just one pair of instruments for a wide range of restorations in the anterior and posterior, clinicians can simplify their restorative instrumentation. Additionally, Dr. McMillan appreciates the level of precision that she can achieve in placing the composite exactly where she wants it. She added that the LM-Arte Solo Anterior and Posterior instruments are most effective in cases where a patient has had decay in the past and was hesitant to go to the dentist to correct it, thus letting cavities and buildup take over their front teeth.

“We encourage fearful patients to come into the office and we do not shame them,” she said. “Those restorations are often the most satisfying, and the flexibility that these instruments offer is a perfect match for the challenges that multiple decayed teeth present.”

Another plus is that the instruments allow doctors to work more efficiently, which translates into seeing and treating more patients. “There’s always pressure to complete patients’ dental work not only well, but rapidly,” said Dr. McMillan. “These instruments allow the intuitive part of your ability to kick in sooner so that you become faster and the work becomes easier. I would definitely recommend them to other doctors."
