While single-visit endodontics affords many advantages to patient and dentist alike, a high level of endodontic competence is required to achieve these benefits on a consistent basis. Chief amongst these is the ability to clean, shape and disinfect complex root canal systems, the expertise to deal with complications such as intricate canal anatomy, loss of patency, calcified root canals and retained foreign bodies as well as the skill to achieve drainage and decompression of the periapical tissues. Achieving all this in a single visit can be a daunting task. This lecture will discuss the pros and cons of single-visit endodontics and will present a laser-assisted treatment philosophy that promotes a high level of success in the management of these cases.
