The 'Gold Standard' in Pain Management

One clinician shares why he relies exclusively on Septodont products, such as Septocaine, to provide pain relief to his patients

Every time Dr. Robert Peskin uses a local anesthetic, it’s from Septodont. His go-to? Septocaine, the company's (and the country’s) leading dental local anesthetic. Dr. Peskin began using what he calls the “platinum” version, epinephrine 1:200,000, over 15 years ago.

“ I have full confidence that Septodont products will live up to their claims.”

“Without local anesthetic, dentists can’t do what they need to do,” said Dr. Peskin, whose Long Island office is equipped to safely provide the entire spectrum of anesthesia services, including oral and intravenous sedation. “There’s no question that patients are going to have discomfort associated with dental procedures—we’re cutting into vital tooth structure and transmitting heat and pressure with high-speed handpieces. Using Septodont products enables us to manage that discomfort so that patients can undergo treatment with a high degree of confidence that they won’t experience any pain.”

Why Septocaine?

Septocaine is very effective for infiltration, Dr. Peskin said, as one of its key benefits is the ability to easily work its way through the cortical bone of the lower jaw. The 4% articaine hydrochloride injection also has a shorter onset time and breaks down in the body more rapidly. The 1:200,000 version of Septocaine cuts the amount of epinephrine in half, he said, making it a better option for patients who experience heart-racing effects when anesthetics are administered, as well as patients with cardiac conditions. “It’s suggested that you keep the epinephrine dose administered to these types of patients under 40 micrograms,” Dr. Peskin said. “That’s the equivalent of two cartridges of lidocaine. A cartridge of Septocaine 1:100,000 may be enough, but I don’t like to be handcuffed. So, having a 1:200,000 option is beneficial.”

Pain Relief Options

While Dr. Peskin prefers using Septocaine, he feels lidocaine is still effective in certain scenarios. He uses Septodont’s 2% lidocaine products occasionally, typically for blocks where there is no concern about the amount of epinephrine being administered. “Both products are very effective for block anesthesia,” he said.

Confidence Guaranteed

“I’ve been to Septodont’s manufacturing plants in Ontario and outside Paris, and I’m very impressed with the diligence and care they take to make sure products pass quality control," added Dr. Peskin. "I have full confidence that the company’s products will live up to their claims.”
