Effortless Scanning
Until now, ensuring proper data collection with an intraoral scanner has typically required a strategy or protocol, such as starting with the molar occlusal surface to help capture the right level of detail. Not following the scan strategy could lead to difficulties in properly stitching the 3D model together, which may result in the scan needing to be redone. However, 3Shape has rebuilt its entire scan engine to remove that inconvenience.
With TRIOS 5, the user can scan patients in any direction and create any desired scan path. ScanAssist technology minimizes misalignment and distortion, and ensures the 3D scan model generated is continuously updated with the latest information. As a result, alignment of the scan data will be close to perfect and the scan of remarkably high quality, no matter one’s level of experience with scanning.
Ideal In-Hand Balance
TRIOS 5 is 3Shape’s smallest and lightest scanner to date—20% smaller and 30% lighter than TRIOS 4. The sleek, pen-grip scanner is perfectly balanced and made to fi t comfortably in every hand, according to the manufacturer.
The scanner weighs just 10.6 oz, including the battery, and is only 10.5 inches long. In comparison, other scanners can weigh up to 16.5 oz and span more than 13 inches in length.
Hygienic by Design
FDA cleared, TRIOS 5 has a built-in surface caries detection aid that sets a new standard in patient protection and infection control. The scanner is easy to clean with the near absence of openings or crevices. It features an ultra-thin, snug, and virtually invisible sleeve designed for single use, thereby minimizing the risk of cross-contamination. The redesigned scan tips are closed and autoclavable, also reducing the risk between patient visits. The window inside the scanner’s tip is made of scratch-free, sapphire glass.
Designed for Simplicity
Among the dozens of improvements made to enhance ease of use, an LED ring on the scanner indicates its status. For example, the LED ring informs the user when it's connected, low on battery, or the tip is ready.
Because switching focus between the patient and screen can be distracting, TRIOS 5 uses haptics—a subtle vibration— to provide feedback. Other features that increase usability include the scanner’s ability to serve as a remote control—the user can point it at the screen and press a button to select the next step or rotate the 3D model, avoiding the need for a keyboard or mouse when scanning a patient.
Finally, no calibration tool is needed. Whereas other intraoral scanner models must be calibrated every 14 days, TRIOS 5 Wireless is always ready for use.
Smart Power Management
Battery life has been optimized with the new system. To save energy, TRIOS 5 automatically switches to sleep mode when not in use and reactivates when it is picked up again. This enables up to 66 minutes of scan time per battery.
The battery charger has two slots, and the third battery can stay inside the scanner for an entire day of scanning.
Peace of Mind
TRIOS 5 owners can take advantage of two service agreement options: TRIOS Care, which provides unlimited support, and TRIOS Only, a scan-ready free service agreement with no monthly costs.
