Dr. Stutman is a Long Island, NY, native, and earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with a major in art from the State University of New York, Plattsburgh, NY, and his dental degree from the School of Graduate Dentistry at Case Western Reserve University. He earned a certificate in general practice residency from MetroHealth Medical Center and completed a postgraduate program in esthetic dentistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Over the years, I've reached a comfort level where I feel confident managing most of my patients' endodontic needs. While implants are an excellent option in certain situations, preserving the patient's own dentition is usually my first choice when the tooth has a reasonable long-term prognosis.

 

I perform most root canals in-house, including many retreatment cases. While there are some situations where I refer to a specialist—separated files near the apex, severely calcified canals, or obvious ledges created during prior treatment—Komet's EnDrive wireless motor is starting to shift that line, not because it pushes me to take on cases I shouldn't, but because it makes treatment feel more predictable and efficient.

 

Intelligent Torque Control

 

What stood out initially was the overall quality and feel of the EnDrive. The handpiece feels solid, and the auto-reverse function is meaningful and user-friendly rather than frustrating. When torque increases, it lets the file advance slightly farther into the canal before backing out. That small change makes a big clinical difference; it smooths progression, feels far more intuitive during treatment, and eases the concern over unnecessary file separation.

 

The motor also has an impressive built-in apex locator that continuously measures working length. I've found it accurate, easy to use, and highly consistent. Whether I'm working in wet or dry canals, the readings stay stable and dependable—not erratic or squirrelly, which has sometimes been my experience with other systems.

 

The EnDrive lets me use virtually any file system in a way that feels seamless. The transition is natural, almost as if the motor and file system were designed to work together. I'm curious to see how different systems pair with the unit's torque control, responsiveness, and auto-reverse behavior, since those have been standout features for me.
