LOCAL ANESTHESIA WITH LESS FORCE, LESS PAIN

Engineered for gentle administration of local anesthetics by infiltration or intraligamentary injection, Septodont’s Septoject Evolution needle has a scalpel-designed bevel that cuts—rather than tears—tissue. The result: less force required for needle insertion, less tissue displacement, and less discomfort for the patient. Because the bevel is centered, deflection is reduced, and the dentist has more control. Dr. Gregory Tuttle shares his unique experiences with this innovative system.

After practicing for 20 years, I acquired a second practice in 2013 and every patient was a new patient. I tried to use the needles the previous dentist had, but I noticed pop-through and it took extra force to give an injection, causing pain to the patients. I’d been using Septoject Evolution needles from Septodont since 2011 in my original practice, and didn’t realize how good they were, requiring considerably less force. When I compared them to the other needles, it was a big difference. Looking to build a practice and help patients through trust, I threw out all of the previous needles. Now my practice grows with every injection.

I initially looked into Septoject Evolution because of its double-bevel scalpel and the 29% reduced force for penetration. This particularly caught my attention because I had been using an innovative technique since 2003. I found a way to perform an intraosseous injection using a standard needle. I tried all different brands, sizes, and lengths of needles, and nothing compared to Septoject Evolution. Its tip made it strikingly easier to penetrate bone and perform my technique. Now what I wanted to do became what I could do. I could skip the IA nerve block and use this needle to perform my technique on every patient.

The technique I have been using for almost 15 years is called TuttleNumbNow (TNN), a localized intraosseous anesthesia method by which patients experience instant numbness, allowing dentists to improve efficiency, eliminate excess, and lessen their risk. I teach this technique worldwide and specifically recommend Septoject Evolution to each dentist I train, allowing them to penetrate the bone. I also invented a needle guide that retrofits to the Septoject Evolution for greater manipulation and to better facilitate penetration.

In my training, I reiterate that when performing an infiltration with this needle, there’s no pop-through. You can glide in like a mosquito, practically undetected. It enables deeper periodontal ligament (PDL) injections, and it allows for buccal plate penetration with the proper technique.

I use the Septoject Evolution needle for all infiltrations, palatal injections, PDL injections, and my proprietary TNN IO injections. The TNN IO injection is my main injection for lower molars. It solves the problems associated with lower molars and has countless other benefits for those looking for alternate anesthesia methods. Septoject Evolution is indispensable for all these techniques.
