An innovative, noninvasive, and easy-to-apply treatment, Curodont can help remineralize enamel and prevent recurring decay

Caries: nobody wants ‘em, yet practically everyone has ‘em. It’s a paradox that affects both sides of the chair. For patients, caries represent a sometimes painful, invasive dental treatment, while for clinicians, they can be challenging to treat—especially in the case of Class IIs—and difficult to prevent. And while effective oral care has always gone a long way toward caries prevention, there’s been little else in the last several decades that can effectively prevent recurring decay.

Enter Curodont Fluoride Plus, an innovative, noninvasive form of guided enamel remineralization therapy that can prevent caries by treating decay before it completely cavitates. For dentists and hygienists, Curodont has fueled the ageless task of improving patients’ oral health while completely changing their all-important patient conversations.

A New Twist to Patient Conversations

“I introduce Curodont to my patients after my clinical exam, and ask if they remember how I mentioned during their last cleaning appointment that they had several decalcification spots,” shared Heather Locker, RDH. “Then, I ask them if they’d like to try a product that can possibly regenerate that area. Most of my patients are more than thrilled to try Curodont!”

For Amber Metro-Sanchez, RDH, BA, introducing Curodont to her patients also has meant a different patient conversation about the importance of maintaining oral health, as well as a new method to prevent decay.

“I tell my patients that there is a new option available to reverse early decay and that it’s quick and easy to complete,” she explained. “I also discuss the effectiveness of Curodont.”

Here’s Why Curodont Is Different

Curodont can be applied to buccal, lingual, occlusal, facial, white spot, and interproximal lesions before decay progresses, as well as during or after ortho bracketing. Suitable for patients 4 years of age and older, Curodont can stop decay from progressing into the “irreversible” spectrum. The process is straightforward chemistry: once Curodont is applied, fluoride, calcium, and other minerals present in saliva attach to the peptide in Curodont and then penetrate enamel, forming hydroxyapatite, which then promotes enamel regeneration.

With a 95% success rate,1 Curodont is clinically proven to remineralize early carious lesions and rebuild natural tooth structure. While other fluoride-containing products promote remineralization and make the enamel surface more acid resistant, they solely act on the surface of the tooth. But Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus features a patented Monomer-Peptide 10 technology that can rebuild natural tooth structure down to the full depth of the enamel lesion.

Curodont can be used with other remineralization products, including fluoride varnish. Application takes just a few minutes and does not require drilling or anesthesia. Curodont starts working within 5 minutes, and continues remineralizing and strengthening in the weeks that follow initial application. The product can be reapplied every 3-6 months to strengthen noncavitated teeth and further improve results.

“I am really excited about Curodont and other products that are related to minimally invasive dentistry,” shared Metro-Sanchez. “I truly believe this is the wave of the future.”

Locker believes Curodont can be especially helpful to younger patients who are wearing orthodontic braces because it can help prevent decalcification in the bracket areas.

“This product is like a dream come true for those early carious lesions,” she added. “I really like this product, as well as the idea that we can prevent caries in the future.”
