Cream of the Crop: Gemini 810 + 980 Diode Laser, a DPS Best Product
To buy or not to buy – that is the question that most dentists contemplate when considering an investment in a new piece of dental equipment like a laser. After careful research and much consideration, Dr. Irene Renieris decided that it was time for her to delve into the world of laser dentistry so that she could do more procedures herself, in her own practice, without referring out to other dentists.
But which laser should she purchase? For Dr. Renieris, that decision was a no-brainer once she experienced the innovative dual wavelength technology of Ultradent’s Gemini 810 + 980 Soft Tissue Diode Laser. “I did my research before purchasing a laser and this was the cream of the crop,” she told Dental Product Shopper in a recent product evaluation.
That DPS evaluation, by the way, received one of the highest scores ever of 4.9 out of 5, earning a perfect score of 5.0 in the ‘dual wavelength and versatility’ category and in ‘overall satisfaction’. You can read the full evaluation here.
From its striking high-tech design to its convenient portability and versatile functions, the Gemini is exactly what Dr. Renieris was looking for in a laser. She said patients are impressed with the attractive transparent electroluminescent display, and the laser is easy to transport from operatory to operatory. “The portability of this laser may be one of my favorite features,” she noted. The dual wavelength technology makes it easy for users to know which setting to use, Renieris said. “I don't have to guess which wavelength to set the machine to. Everything works perfectly.”
Dr. Renieris now uses the Gemini laser to perform procedures that she would have referred to specialists in the past. For example, performing a simple soft tissue crown lengthening with a scalpel can cause major bleeding, so, in the past, she would refer this procedure to a periodontist. With the laser, she can now safely perform crown lengthening procedures herself, remove lesions such as traumatic granulomas, and provide a host of new services to her patients right in her own practice.
Not only is Dr. Renieris able to offer extra services in her practice, but the laser allows her to enhance patient care in numerous ways. With super-pulsed power, the Gemini causes less charring and less thermal damage while improving patient comfort. Dr. Renieris pointed out that she is able to control hemostasis, enjoy accurate visible margins during scanning, and eliminate cord packing.
“I love my Gemini laser. It’s one of my favorite products,” she concluded. “For the cost, it pays for itself. It simply allows me to be able to do better dentistry.”
