Building a Better Core

Teeth that have undergone extensive damage to the point of structural deficiency often require rebuilding before a crown or bridge can be placed. Like most restorations, dental amalgam was once the first-line choice of core material before being replaced by composites. Core composite materials have proven to not only be an effective alternative to amalgam but also offer significant functional and aesthetic advantages. These benefits include excellent strength and durability as well as adaptation to tooth structure and appearance.

Parkell's Absolute Dentin® LV is among the latest generation of core composite materials and is engineered to support resilient, long-lasting core restorations and luting of endodontic posts. The highly-radiopaque, nano-filled, dual-cured material features a low shrinkage filler for remarkable compressive, tensile and flexural strengths. This, in turn, produces a strong, durable core. Manufactured with a process completely void of BisPhenol A (BP-A), Absolute Dentin LV cuts like dentin with rotary diamond instruments and resists bur ditching.

Deliverable via a convenient hand-dispensed 5mL syringe, Absolute Dentin LV possesses great flowability, ensuring excellent adaptation to irregularly shaped post/core preparations, core formers and matrix bands. Likewise, the material’s dual-cured properties promote complete polymerization deep into the tooth structure and root for strong post cementation and core buildup.

Absolute Dentin LV will light-cure to a depth of 3–4mm in 40 seconds with any dental curing device producing light from 430–480nm at an intensity of >600 mW/cm2. At mouth temperature, the material will also completely self-cure to any depth in 4–5 minutes. Absolute Dentin LV is available in two versatile shades—Tooth and White. Tooth Shade is ideal for maintaining natural aesthetics under full ceramic restorations while White is suited for masking underlying aesthetic discrepancies and creating a visual delineation between core and natural tooth shades.
