ACT DryMouth Spray for Long-Term Relief
Oral dryness can be temporary or long term, mildly uncomfortable or very painful, and vary from day to day. It may be the result of a medication or just a natural occurrence as people age. It is, however, very common. And it can lead to dental problems, as well as issues with taste, chewing, swallowing, and speaking.
Chronic reduced salivary flow can result in a variety of oral diseases, which can then compromise overall health and further diminish quality of life. If any of your patients are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation, or have an autoimmune disease or other conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or hormone shifts, they might be experiencing dry mouth but not associating it with a dental issue, much less one that can be addressed by a dental product.
Talking about their health histories at each visit and asking if they are going through any of the above situations will enable you to explain how it will impact their oral health over time.
Patients need to realize that left unchecked, they can develop mouth sores and ulcerations, bad breath, burning tongue, trouble with nutrition, gingivitis, and eventually tooth decay.
ACT recently introduced ACT Dry Mouth Spray to its dry mouth line of products. It’s an easy way for patients to lubricate dry oral tissues without having to expectorate, which makes it very convenient to use as needed.
The spray has a special formulation, called Optaflow*, which provides long-lasting relief. It works fast, contains eight moisturizers, freshens breath, and is alcohol and sugar free. It also contains xylitol, an added benefit in the fight against caries.
Other dry mouth products offered by ACT include lozenges, mouthwash, and toothpaste.
So if a patient needs to combat this symptom from every angle, it can be simply done from sun up to sun down.
It’s very likely that more of your patients experience dry mouth than you are aware of. If it’s something that has happened over time, they might think it’s just natural until you have to point out that it’s having an avoidable impact on their oral health.
