Last year, Orascoptic marked a major milestone in helping clinicians create properly fitted loupes for them. The medical vision manufacturer launched Optikam, a precision technology driven measurement system that captures facial geometry measurements to within a tenth of a millimeter.
The system was a game-changer for Amber Auger, RDH, MPH, clinical innovation specialist, who shared her thoughts on the role Optikam played in selecting Orascoptic for her loupes.
Auger was in need of new loupes. The ones she had received from her boss, she wrote, were the incorrect size, shape, weight and working distance, and this mismatch was causing big problems for her. “I ended up with pain that I didn’t have previously and felt dizzy most of the day.”
Her pain got progressively worse.
“I would arrive to work with athletic tape crisscrossed on my back to combat the muscle imbalance my poor posture had created,” she wrote. “I was beginning to think that I hit rock bottom and doubted how long I would be able to deal with the pain.”
She said she found Orascoptic when researching new loupes. She said she liked that Orascoptic used Optikam, a system she felt was unlike what any other company was doing.
With Optikam, Orascoptic captured Auger’s pupillary distance and facial measurements. “This was a new technology to me, as I had only been measured manually in the past – which I later found out was a potential contributor to one of the root causes of the pain I was experiencing.”
Orascoptic also captured Auger’s frame and magnification measurements. The company used this information to create a precise order that the manufacturing team then used to build her custom loupes.
