Now More Than Ever, Versatility Can Be a True Asset
No doubt, 2020 will go down as an unprecedented year for dentistry. It’s been unusual, uncertain, and challenging for just about every practice in the United States. One word I haven’t heard used is “easy.” Shutting down a practice for any length of time and reopening it while trying to address staffing and safety issues, patient fears, and social distancing has amounted to a very difficult time for dental teams.
While there’s no getting around the need for enhanced infection prevention measures and new safety protocols, there are ways that dentists can make their own jobs easier by using products and technologies that improve outcomes while creating efficiencies such as time and money savings. This can mean trying out a product that A) has multiple indications so it can be used for different types of procedures, and B) is easy to use, from application to cleanup.
“Dentists are conscious of cost and inventory,” said Dr. Robert Lowe, a key opinion leader who practices in Charlotte, NC. “When you need a number of products to do a procedure, it’s a lot harder than if you need 2 or 3. There are some definite advantages of materials that have chemistries that allow for a wide range of use and applications.”
Keep It Simple
A case in point is the new Visalys CemCore from Kettenbach, a dual-curing adhesive cement for ALL restorations and a core buildup material in a single composite. The material features a high bond strength to all substrates—including ceramics like zirconia and e.max, as well as metals and composites—and can be used to cement crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays and onlays, and root canal posts. It can also be used for core buildups that are problem-free, meaning the material has the viscosity to stay confined to the area being built up.
Considering the product’s versality, you might think that restoring with Visalys CemCore requires multiple components. However, it involves just 3—an automix syringe, a self-etching tooth primer, and a restorative primer. No mixing is necessary. In terms of shades, you have your choice of 5: Universal (A2/A3), opaque, translucent, bleach, and dark (A4).
Easy Cleanup, Too
During cementation, the material flows easily to form a thin layer under the restoration. Any excess can be easily removed thanks to the fine control of the initial light-curing. “As long as you watch for the gel phase and use your explorer or scaler accordingly, cleanup should be pretty routine,” Dr. Lowe said. “I think there’s a real promise for a material like Visalys CemCore that can serve the dentist in so many different areas.”
At a time when saving money is of paramount importance to the practice, Visalys CemCore represents a solution that saves time and money. You can eliminate the need to carry multiple types of cement in addition to core buildup material, while also simplifying the procedure.
