Ionolux: the Fluoride-Releasing RMGI with Composite-Like Esthetics

Ionolux from VOCO America is an interesting product. It’s a resin-modified glass ionomer that behaves more like a composite. Its handling and packing properties are similar to composite—it dispenses easily, doesn’t stick to instruments, and is immediately packable after application—plus it has the esthetics of a composite. Indicated for Class III and V restorations, it is ideal for restoring deIonolux resin-modified glass ionomer from VOCO Americaciduous teeth because of its high release of fluoride. Practitioners find it useful for cervical filling, root caries, small class I and temporary fillings, as well as core build-ups and linings. Ionolux’s advantages also include that it’s easy to shape, has excellent translucency, is highly radiopaque, and requires no conditioner or varnish. To top it off, being available in five shades makes it very versatile.

A Dental Product Shopper evaluator noted that the fewer steps Ionolux requires reduces chair time, especially helpful with children who are known to be impatient, and other situations where procedures need to be completed quickly, such as elderly patients. It light cures to a hard finish quickly and can be polished immediately. Another reviewer stated that Ionolux can be used in lieu of conventional flowable composites in cases when you need the benefits of fluoride release.
