New App Bridging Dentist/Physician Divide

It was developed to help primary care physicians formulate real-time diagnoses for a variety of oral conditions. It’s The Smiles for Life Oral Health App, which includes user-friendly diagnostic modules and a risk assessment tool. Via a series of questions, the tool narrows down information on signs/symptoms as well as management. It also includes is a photo gallery.

The app is based on Smiles for Life: A National Oral Health Curriculum, which was originally developed in 2005 by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine to provide educational resources to enhance the role of physicians traningn in Family Medicine residency programs in the promotion of oral health. By 2007, most residencies included the curriculum, now in its 3rd edition and currently the most widely used oral health curriculum for in professional schools and post-graduate training programs.
