Why This Doctor Switched to KoR Whitening, and Hasn't looked Back...

Dr. Nancy Duque, who has a practice in San Antonio, TX,  graduated from the University of Michigan in 1986, and she has a lot of experience with whitening products. She tells us why she switched to KöR Whitening 4 years ago and why she continues to rely on it

What were your first whitening experiences like?

In 1990, when I opened my first practice, I attended a bleaching course. At that time, all whitening was done with trays. It definitely helped my patients, but with the system I was using then—and with a lot of the products available at that time—it required constant maintenance. Every few months, patients had to purchase new bleaching trays and do the whole process over again for a couple of nights. There were no other options at that time.

After I sold that first practice, I worked for a corporate practice for a while and the system they used included a light. Again, patients got results, but it seemed that almost every patient got what they called “zingers”—intense pain in various teeth. We let patients know ahead of time that they might experience this discomfort and that it would go away. In addition to this unpleasant experience for the patients, the mechanics of working with the light was time-consuming and cumbersome.

When did you make the switch to KoR?

I first heard about KöR in a dental journal. I was intrigued by the author’s success with the system, and the science and chemistry behind it made sense to me.

When I bought my current practice about 6 years ago, it came with a whitening light, which I continued to use, but I didn’t go out of my way to promote it. I knew I needed an alternative, so that’s why KöR jumped out at me. I’ve been using it for about 4 years now.

How is KöR Whitening different from those earlier experiences?

KöR offers in-office, at-home, and combination whitening options. Typically, the patient does a 2-week at-home treatment and they’re all set. For tougher situations, the patient will do the 2-week at-home whitening and then come in for a single in-office procedure.

KöR is the only system that successfully treats tetracycline stains. I’ve whitened two patients with tetracycline stains (I have another scheduled soon), and they’re both very happy with the result. In the past, the only option for these patients would have been veneers.

Another great feature with KöR is the tray fabrication. They’re the experts, so I have their lab make all of my trays. I haven’t had any push back from patients about this. They understand that the trays are specially made for them and this system.

What’s been the patient reaction?

My patients are very happy. They don’t experience any sensitivity and the results are permanent – with only occasional home maintenance. We don’t have to keep selling them lots of extra whitening tubes like we did with some other products. And patients especially like that they can continue enjoying their favorite foods and beverages, without affecting the whiteness of their teeth.
