What matters to dental professionals when it comes to purchasing new loupes?

Orascoptic recently did some market research to find out, in an effort to help refine its brand and ensure their products best meet professionals’ needs.

Through research and analytics company Vennli, Orascoptic surveyed 150 general dentists, 105 specialists, and 30 hygienists.

Respondents in each category placed a high importance on the product durability and the level of trust they have in the brand. Many large practices (those with 10 locations or more) said that their preferred brand for loupes is Orascoptic.

There were some interesting findings when the research broke responses down by group.

General dentists ranked the following qualities regarding a loupes purchase in order of importance:

  •    Superior optical quality
  •     Highly durable
  •     Great warranty terms
  •     Ability to use loupes right away
  •     Easy to reach customer service

Specialists, meanwhile, when compared to the other two groups, placed more importance on being able to easily reach customer service, having access to a variety of magnification powers, and making a purchase from a recognized and trusted brand. They also placed significantly less importance on price.

Here are their top five priorities:

  •     Superior optical quality
  •     Highly durable
  •     Comfortable to wear
  •     Lightweight design
  •     Easy to reach customer service

Finally, hygienists placed more importance in having a knowledgeable and qualified local sales representative, a variety of frames and flexible payment plans than those in other categories.

They listed their top five loupes priorities as:

  •     Highly durable
  •     Comfortable to wear
  •     Lightweight design
  •     Superior optical quality
  •     Great warranty terms

Respondents across all categories who were 35 or older placed more importance on innovation than their younger counterparts.

The research also looked at what channels each group looks to when doing product research.

All groups, but particularly specialists, reached out to and trusted their peers regarding loupes recommendations over all other methods.

Dental publications and manufacturers websites also were popular choices; social media, on the other hand, was not a preferred method of product research. Respondents also said they placed little trust in both social media and what they learned in dental school when it comes to loupes recommendations.

What do you think? Do these findings reflect your own opinions about your preferences when it comes to loupes?
