Medicom creates SafeGauze HemoStat to Quickly Stop Bleeding
After an extraction, periodontal surgery or other dental procedures, stopping bleeding is critical.
The process that causes bleeding to stop, known as hemostasis, consists of three steps: vascular spasm (or vasoconstriction), platelet plug formation and clot formation. In dentistry, these natural mechanisms can be accelerated by using a hemostatic product. However, not all hemostatic products are equally effective at controlling bleeding.
Recognizing the need for a single product that fulfills all of a dentist’s hemostatic needs, Medicom® created SafeGauze® HemoStat™, a topical hemostatic dressing.
Introduced in 2017, SafeGauze HemoStat is designed for easy placement. It conforms precisely to the socket, quickly stopping bleeding and saving valuable chair time.
SafeGauze HemoStat is applied using direct pressure and upon contact with blood or fluids, the highly-absorbent sterile fabric quickly expands, transforming into a clear, viscous gel. The gel then fills the extraction site within seconds, forming a plug that conforms to the wound while sealing capillary ends and activating the clotting system.
Due to its small size, SafeGauze HemoStat gauze fits perfectly into single extraction sites.
SafeGauze HemoStat has been widely praised for its safe, time-saving features. It adheres to the wound, not to dental instruments. The combination of convenient foil packaging, simple, secure placement and rapid gel transformation expedites hemostasis and eliminates the need for sutures. Moreover, the fabric can absorb more than 45 times its weight, promoting quick, strong clot formation.
SafeGauze HemoStat is made from 100% natural cellulose, ensuring non-toxicity and preventing adverse effects caused by human- or animal-based collagen.
Prepared by chemical treatment of regenerated cellulose, the material dissolves over time and minimizes the risk of infection while promoting healing thanks to its natural antimicrobial properties.
