From fractured files to strip perforations, there are many things that can go wrong during endodontic therapy. And when it comes to special cases, such as patients with extra fine or curved canal structures, the procedural difficulty increases significantly. To meet these myriad challenges, COLTENE developed the HyFlex series of rotary files. These nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments are designed to make root canal preparation a faster, smoother experience even in the most complex of cases.

HyFlex EDM represents the fifth generation of COLTENE’s rotary file line and possesses wholly new properties due to an innovative manufacturing process. Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) generates sparks that melt and evaporate the surface of the tool, in turn producing an exceptionally flexible and fracture resistant file. Compared to conventional NiTi files, HyFlex EDM offers an impressive 700% greater resistance to cyclic fatigue.

Like its predecessor, HyFlex CM, HyFlex EDM files feature a controlled memory (CM) effect. This property maximizes flexibility and regeneration and minimizes the risk of ledging, transportation and perforation. Due to the combined strength, flexibility and cutting efficiency of HyFlex EDM files, practitioners can expect to reduce the number of files required to successfully shape and clean the root canal while still preserving anatomy. This ultimately means faster, more accurate and more cost-effective endodontics.

A pre-sterilized, modular system of instruments, HyFlex EDM includes Orifice Opener, Glidepath, Preparation, OneFile and Finishing Files. These instruments can be used in conjunction with HyFlex CM as needed.
