Teledentistry will reach a major milestone in just a couple of weeks. The American Dental Association’s Code on Dental Procedures and Nomenclature will include teledentistry codes, affirming what many dentists have known for a couple of years now—teledentistry is here to stay.

According to the ADA, “Teledentistry provides the means for a patient to receive services when the patient is in one physical location and the dentist or other oral health or general health care practitioner overseeing the delivery of those services is in another location.” This is usually done through live video and the virtual transmission of files. Teledentistry is often supported by the use of mobile devices.

MouthWatch has been supporting teledentistry since 2012, making them pioneers in the field. MouthWatch believes all dental practices—no matter the size or location—can support teledentistry. MouthWatch’s platform, TeleDent, can extend a practice’s reach well beyond the office walls, enabling that practice to conduct mobile dental and off-site hygiene and public health programs, improving equity of care. Using the platform, a practice can also collaborate with other doctors and labs.

Implementing teledentistry in your practice doesn’t need to be complicated or overwhelming. TeleDent’s all-in-one platform includes everything you need: a high-quality intraoral camera, tablet and HIPAA-compliant software that accommodates cloud-based document and image storage and scheduling. You can also use just the camera and software with any web-enabled phone or computer. MouthWatch can also develop a custom solution based on a practitioner’s specific needs. MouthWatch provides training and support so you can confidently use these tools.

Whether teledentistry is a revenue-generation opportunity or a chance to offer public health work in the community—or perhaps both—MouthWatch can support your efforts. TeleDent enables clinicians to focus on their patients’ health by taking all of the guesswork out of expanding one’s capabilities.
