This is the excellent dilemma that Dr. Charles Bloom of New Brunswick, NJ, faces after being declared the winner of Dental Product Shopper’s Ultimate Office Sweepstakes. DPS announced the winner Jan. 4 on Facebook Live, and news of Dr. Bloom’s win spread so quickly that his dental colleagues were informing him before DPS could reach him with a phone call. Needless to say, when he got the call that he had just won his choice of $200,000 worth of dental products, Dr. Bloom was a bit skeptical.
“I was dubious, because a lot of contests that you enter…once you find out what is really behind them, it is kind of like a bait-and-switch, so I was a little bit dubious at first. But the more I researched it, the more I realized that it was for real,” he said.
“It was also kind of funny because [the day of the announcement], I was at Robert Wood Johnson hospital, as once a month I help teach the residents. One of my colleagues told me that he had received a text message from one of his dentist friends up in North Jersey, who apparently saw my name announced on Facebook,” he added.
The win entitles Dr. Bloom to the profession’s top equipment, supplies, and services, as every prize offered is a DPS “Best Product.” That means these products and services were awarded the highest scores across a variety of criteria by teams of dentists and hygienists who used them extensively in real practice.
With the prospect of choosing from a veritable “candy store selection” of dental products to outfit the office, any clinician would immediately have their eyes on certain products that have been on their “wish lists,” which for Dr. Bloom included a product he wanted to try and another he already had in practice.
“I did have some interest in the Seiler microscope. I was actually interested in it before I won this contest, and I had the rep come here and he dropped one off as a demo so I could try it out,” he said. “The other product is the Midwest Automate from Dentsply Sirona Midwest. I have a KaVo QUATTROcare already in my practice, but now I’m thinking about also getting the Midwest Automate,” he added.
While Dr. Bloom could not immediately say exactly which products he would be choosing, this year’s winner was very definitive in providing reasons for clinicians to enter the 2017 edition of the contest. “In this day and age, with overhead what it is, the products that are offered in this contest can help anybody.”
