Class II Total Practice Solution Evaluation
The Class II Total Practice Solution contains all 5 products needed for strong, reliable, esthetic class II restorations
"The final product is reliably perfect every time. I will certainly recommend these products to my colleagues," said a New Jersey dentist who rated all features of DENTSPLY Caulk's Class II Total Practice Solution as excellent.
The Class II Total Practice Solution covers every stage of Class II procedures with a "portfolio" of 5 easy-to-use, reliable products; the Palodent Plus sectional matrix system, Prime&Bond Elect universal adhesive, SureFil SDR flow posterior bulk fill, and the Enhance finishing & polishing system.
The 14 dentists who participated in this Dental Product Shopper review tested all 5 products and rated features such as contact creation, system effectiveness and shade match.
Contact Creation
Manufacturer Description: The Class II Total Practice Solution's Palodent Plus sectional matrix system creates highly predictable, tight contacts with every procedure.
Evaluator Feedback: With comments such as, "the matrix system was great," 10 of the 12 evaluators who rated contact creation rated it as excellent or very good. "I was able to create great proximal contacts," said 1 evaluator. One dentist noted, "The matrices and rings give excellent separation, adaptation, and contacts." An evaluator who "liked the [sectional] matrix" commented, "A little stiffer matrix band material would help a lot with difficult placements."

System Effectiveness
Manufacturer Description: Prime&Bond Elect, Class II Total Practice Solution's universal adhesive, produces consistently high-bond strengths with virtually no postoperative sensitivity, and has extremely low film thickness for any etching technique. As the only low-stress, self-leveling, bulk-fill flowable, SureFil SDR flow saves up to 40% of Class II placement time by combining excellent cavity adaptation with "category-best" shrinkage stress at depths of up to 4 mm. TPH Spectra Universal Composite is the only composite available in both low- and high-viscosity formulas.
Evaluator Feedback: Of the 12 dentists who rated system effectiveness and cavity adaptation, 10 rated both features as excellent or very good. Comments about Prime&Bond Elect included, "The bonding agent was great," and, "The select dentin bonding agent is thin and seems to work very well."
Commenting on SureFil SDR flow, 1 dentist identified, "confidence that the flowable got into all aspects of the cavity prep" as the feature he liked most. Another evaluator noted that "bulk filling is easy," while acknowledging a "small learning curve" for his assistant when removing and replacing compules into the gun. This same evaluator remarked that, "The 2 consistencies of [TPH Spectra] were good."
One dentist, in practice for 42 years, noted, "The composite was excellent," and an evaluator who identified handling as the feature he liked most reported "similar handling characteristics to other composites, but less tacky."
Esthetics (Shade Match)
Manufacturer Description: TPH Spectra's simplified shading covers the entire VITA shade range, and an unmatched chameleon effect produces beautiful, lifelike restorations. The Enhance Finishing System produces intermediate and final finishing, resulting in a smooth, contoured restorative surface.
Evaluator Feedback: When asked about shade match, 11 of the 14 evaluators rated this feature as excellent or very good, with several evaluators identifying esthetic-related characteristics, such as "shade match and final esthetics" and "polish and color stability" as the features they liked most.
"The Enhance polishers have been my go-to polisher for many, many years," said a Colorado dentist in practice for 34 years. A Pennsylvania dentist who said she would definitely purchase the Solution and recommend it to colleagues reported that, "The U shade of [the] flowable is often a great match," and an Illinois dentist who rated the system as very good said, "The color choices were excellent and were true to the VITA guide." One evaluator noted that "shade varies with depth."
Overall Satisfaction
"The bonding agent was great, the wedge system was excellent, no patients reported postop sensitivity. Overall, a good system," said a dentist in practice for 24 years. "Using this system will yield a final restoration with nice tight contacts and flawless esthetics," said a dentist who rated all features as excellent.
