PANAVIA Veneer LC
Nanocluster filler technology simplifi es and expedites veneer placement while providing exceptional color stability and highly esthetic results
The plan was to place veneers on teeth Nos. 7 and 10 to match teeth Nos. 8 and 9—a task that Dr. Robert Convissar acknowledges as a potentially “tricky” one—and for good reason. After all, dentists are aware that patients who leave the office completely happy with their veneers sometimes call back to complain about a change in appearance or a shade that suddenly seems a bit off.
Today, however, Dr. Convissar and his colleagues can put those phone calls to rest, thanks to PANAVIA Veneer LC, a light-cured resin cement that Kuraray aptly dubs as an “ideal solution for challenging tasks.” Indicated for permanent cementation of veneers and for inlays and on-lays less than 2-mm thick, PANAVIA Veneer LC is formulated with nanocluster fillers that offer a wide range of benefits, including exceptional color stability and high esthetics.
When using PANAVIA Veneer LC on the abovementioned patient, Dr. Convissar discovered that his potentially tricky endeavor wasn’t so tricky after all. “The shade was perfect,” he said. “The cement didn’t change the veneer shade, and it just made life easier for me.”
Ease of Use
According to Kuraray, PANAVIA Veneer LC reduces the time and effort involved in veneer placement with its homogeneous application, smooth veneer positioning, easy removal of excess cement, and quick polishing—all of which give the clinician optimal control. Dispensed in a syringe with special applicator tips, PANAVIA Veneer LC proved to be a “simple system” with “easy cleanup” for Dr. Akshay Vij, who said its simplicity made it “easy to teach and implement with the dental team.” In apparent agreement was Dr. Convissar, who was hoping to find a simpler method to cement veneers and said that PANAVIA Veneer LC “makes the process easier.”
Handling & Working Time
Thanks to its nanocluster filler technology, the consistency of PANAVIA Veneer LC facilitates easy and secure application across the intaglio surface without sticking to the applicator tip. These newly developed spherical silica fillers provide stability, while also allowing flow when the veneer is seated on the tooth. The result is easy placement without drifting or sagging, according to Kuraray. The cement also features a long (160-second) working time, which allows for simultaneous placement of multiple veneers.
Dr. Craig Goldin appreciated the “nice set of the cement at the initial tack cure,” and Dr. Frederick Bonds was happy with the faster bonding time. Dr. Vij described the cement as “easy to handle and easier to work with intraorally” than other cements. Dr. Mike Glasmeier identified handling as his favorite feature, as did Dr. Jack Ringer, who made a point of comparing PANAVIA Veneer LC to the cements he currently uses. The material’s ease of cleanup impressed several evaluators, including Dr. Ian Lowell and Dr. Convissar, who also praised the cement’s low film thickness. In Dr. Sheldon Seidman’s hands, PANAVIA Veneer LC worked best with thin veneers. When asked about potential improvements, Dr. Seidman suggested a single bottle version of the bonding agent to keep from slowing the seating process, and Dr. Lowell would like to see less wasted material during initial expression.

Esthetics & Bond Strength
With exceptional polishability and gloss retention, PANAVIA Veneer LC supports esthetic margins over time. Clinicians can choose from 4 highly esthetic shades—clear, universal, white, and brown—that make it easy to achieve lifelike results. Matching try-in pastes help simulate the final appearance.
Searching for a veneer cement with consistent try-in paste colors and simplicity of use, Dr. Bonds praised PANAVIA Veneer LC’s “excellent try-in paste color stability” and its “good cleanup and polishability.” To further improve esthetics, Dr. Bonds recommends that Kuraray include “custom tints for modifying color and a good blocker or opaquer.” For Dr. Lowell, the cement worked “perfectly” in the cementation protocol for veneers.
Hoping that PANAVIA Veneer LC would provide “better bond strength for veneer restorations and easier handling characteristics,” Dr. Vij reported “predictably good bond strength,” although he acknowledged the need to look at in vitro and in vivo studies for long-term results. Dr. Goldin expressed an interest in seeing studies comparing PANAVIA Veneer LC’s shortened bonding technique with traditional techniques before making a determination about bond strength.
Overall Satisfaction
Positive feedback about the cement’s ease of handling, quick and easy cleanup, and color stability was a common thread throughout most evaluators’ comments. Describing himself as someone who is “always happy to find the next best thing,” Dr. Ken Bendik said he would purchase and recommend PANAVIA Veneer LC, and Dr. Bonds said, “It does exactly what it should do. It’s easy to use and affords great esthetic results.” Dr. Glasmeier weighed in by saying he “would continue to use it in the future” and Dr. Lowell concluded, “It provided me with a material that I have confidence using for veneer placement.”
