EZ-Pedo Pediatric Zirconia Crowns Evaluation
EZ-Pedo crowns are the original metal-free, monolithic zirconia crowns designed especially for children.
When asked for an overall opinion of EZ-Pedo crowns, a dentist who rated the product as excellent said, "I have had the opportunity to use other zirconia crowns for children and there is no doubt that these are the easiest to place and have the greatest esthetics of any of the other crowns that I have used."
As the world's first metal-free, all-ceramic prefabricated monolithic zirconia crowns designed specifically for children, EZ-Pedo combines esthetics and durability with a healthier biocompatible restoration option.
Eleven dentists, all of whom were current EZ-Pedo users, evaluated the crowns, rating features such as patient satisfaction and esthetics, ease of use and strength/durability.
Patient Satisfaction (Esthetics)
Manufacturer Description: EZ-Pedo's EZ-Seat contours permit a passive fit with less tooth removal, providing the optimal blend of esthetics, strength and ease of fit. The monolithic zirconia construction provides an esthetically pleasing and healthier (biocompatible) option.
Evaluator Feedback: "Beautiful results, happy parents," said an evaluator who described the crowns as having "the beauty of a strip crown with better wear than steel crowns." An evaluator who gave EZ-Pedo an overall rating of excellent said, "The crowns look so natural. [It's] sometimes difficult to distinguish [them] from actual teeth."
"My favorite thing about the product is the parents' reaction when they return for an evaluation. They all comment on how beautiful the front crowns are and note that their family and friends can't believe how natural the crowns look," said a dentist who rated the crowns as excellent. The same evaluator went on to add, "It also seems like the children with the zirconia crowns have much healthier gingival tissue than those who had SSCs placed."
Another evaluator, who said he would definitely purchase and recommend the crowns, noted that, "Parents love the natural look. With a stainless steel crown, they feel they have been bad parents for not taking care of their children's teeth."

Ease of Use
Manufacturer Description: EZ-Pedo's unique design produces optimal fit while facilitating ease of use. Narrower prime-sized first molars solve the common problems associated with complex cases involving significant space loss and/or back-to-back restorations. The crowns are autoclavable and available in starter, trial, and custom kits that include an excellent selection of the most commonly used sizes.
Evaluator Feedback: An evaluator who said he had "always run into problems with the mesial and distal alveolar bone" with the older crowns noted, "The new form of crowns I was sent to try seat much better. The trial ones had a more convex mesial and distal curve at the gingiva to compensate for this."
Strength/Durability
Manufacturer Description: Monolithic Zirconia construction eliminates concerns about chipped or fractured facings, rendering EZ-Pedo crowns virtually indestructible once they're cemented. Patented Zir-Lock technology maximizes retention by increasing internal surface area.
Evaluator Feedback: "I don't have to worry about staining, remakes or failures," said one evaluator. Citing "appearance, gingival healing and strength" as the features he liked most, a California dentist who has been using EZ-Pedo crowns for 1-3 years noted that, "Kids have hit them and knocked the teeth sideways and out and the crown hasn't fractured."
Overall Satisfaction
With comments such as "completely satisfied," and, "very happy with the product and its results," 10 evaluators said they would definitely purchase EZ-Pedo crowns and recommend them to their colleagues, and 9 called them much better than similar products. A Virginia dentist in practice for 13 years said, "EZ-Pedo crowns have allowed for a highly durable and cosmetic alternative to composite restorations." When asked about potential improvements, one evaluator said, "I can't think of a single thing that I would like [to be] different about the crown."
