VOCO’s GrandioSO is a universal nano-hybrid restorative indicated for use in Class 1 to 5 restorations. VOCO describes GrandioSO as ideal for reconstructing damaged anteriors, splinting loose anteriors, repairing veneers, and correcting tooth shape and shade for improved esthetics. According to the manufacturer, GrandioSO has excellent light resistance and an intelligent shade matching system that accommodates every clinical situation.
Fourteen evaluators with a combined 305 years of experience participated in Dental Product Shopper’s evaluation of GrandioSO. Evaluators rated several features, including handling, ease of use and ease of polish, esthetics, and overall satisfaction of the product.
Handling
GrandioSO features nonsticky handling so the material does not stick to instruments. The manufacturer states that the material’s smooth consistency allows for excellent modeling throughout the restoration process. Clinicians can work quickly because of the handling of the material, its smooth consistency, and good packable sculptability. According to VOCO, GrandioSO’s light resistance of 4 minutes and 30 seconds allows clinicians to work efficiently without time pressure.
GrandioSO’s handling was well-received by evaluators; 6 rated it as excellent, 7 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. An evaluator from Omaha, NE with 43 years of experience said, “It did not stick to my instruments, but [it] adhered to the tooth.”
Another evaluator with 13 years of experience agreed: “Handling is nonsticky, extending working time under the operatory light.” In addition, 10 evaluators named handling the feature they liked best about the product.
Ease of Use and Ease of Polish
VOCO describes GrandioSO as an all-purpose restorative that is compatible with all conventional bonds. Additionally, GrandioSO easily polishes to a high gloss, ensuring a long-lasting, smooth surface.
When the 14 evaluators were asked to rate ease of use and ease of polish, 5 rated it excellent and 9 rated it very good. One dentist who practices in Dearborn, MI said GrandioSO “seemed easier to polish than most composites I’ve used in the past.” When asked if she would recommend GrandioSO to colleagues or contacts within the dental profession, this evaluator answered “definitely.”
When asked what he would like to see improved about the product, an evaluator from Naples, FL said, “Perhaps a bit stiffer for Class 2 composites and contacts,” while another evaluator from Oakland Gardens, NY said that “color coded caps would help with quicker identification.”
Esthetics and Shade Matching
VOCO describes GrandioSO as having optimal coordination of opacity and translucency for results that mirror the natural tooth. It also includes a shade system with new shades A3.25 and A5.
When asked to rate final esthetics, 6 evaluators rated GrandioSO as excellent, 7 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. One of the dentist evaluators who rated GrandioSO’s final esthetics as very good said, “I really enjoyed this composite and if it holds up as well as all the other features I experienced, I will definitely purchase.”
Overall Satisfaction
When the evaluators were asked if they would recommend GrandioSO to their colleagues, 12 said they “definitely” or “probably” would, while 2 were not sure. Twelve of the 14 evaluators said they “definitely” or “probably” would purchase GrandioSO in the future.
Evaluators were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with GrandioSO. Five evaluators rated it as excellent, 8 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. An evaluator with 32 years of experience summarized his evaluation of GrandioSO and said it “handled well, adapted to cavity walls well, and finished very well.” Another evaluator added, “I liked it and will continue using it in place of my old composite.”
