Breeze RMGI

Pentron’s Breeze RMGI was designed to deliver a stable and long-term durable restoration with its outstanding bond strength to zirconia, PFM, and metal crowns. Its exceptional physical properties, including moisture tolerance, continuous fl uoride release, high radiopaque visibility, and dual-cure options give dentists maximum versatility and enhanced durability. With tack cure capabilities, Breeze RMGI also eliminates excess time with effortless cleaning. Breeze RMGI is a dual-cure product, enabling dentists to select either Tack-Cure Mode (cured in 2 to 3 seconds), or Self-Cure Mode (set time of 4 minutes 30 seconds for more control over multiple crowns), depending on specific procedure needs.

Suitable for zirconia, PFM, and metal crowns, this RMGI delivers a bond with ease and versatility

When cementing a restoration, Dr. Elizabeth Spindel wants a cement that’s easy all around—easy to use, mix, and clean up. She was among a group of dentists looking for those qualities and others in Pentron’s Breeze Resin Modified Glass Ionomer (RMGI) when they tested the cement for this Dental Product Shopper evaluation. In the end, Dr. Spindel concluded, “It was excellent…so easy to use so it makes our day less stressful.”

The dual-cured Breeze RMGI, which is available in 5 gm automix syringes in translucent white, is indicated for the cementation of zirconia, PFM, and metal crowns. It combines outstanding bond strength with high radiopacity and continuous fluoride release to ensure a strong, stable restoration that’s a breeze to complete.

Delivery, Ease of Use, and Handling

A unique mixing tip fits onto the automix syringe and automatically mixes the cement, eliminating the need for hand mixing. The automix feature was what Dr. Tim Fagan liked best about Breeze RMGI, and he said, “My assistants loved it because the product’s mixing tips eliminated the need for them to mix the components by hand.”

Dr. Ray Morse noted that Breeze RMGI was easy to use and did not require a separate bonding process or bonding agent, and said he was pleased to find an easier way to cement zirconia crowns. He added, “I like having the option to cement a zirconia crown rather than have to bond it into place.” For Dr. Artin Manoukian, the easier protocol meant shorter chair time, and Dr. Elizabeth Fleming agreed it is easy to use. When asked to recommend improvements, Dr. Fleming suggested, “We use IRM for our posterior temporaries, so to have it compatible with IRM would be better for us.” Two of the dentists who evaluated the product recommended shorter mixing tips, and three evaluators noted that their patients did not like the taste.

Curing Time and Cleanup

The dual-cure capabilities of Breeze RMGI make it versatile for many uses. It self-cures in 4:30 minutes and can be tack-cured for 3 seconds before easily removing any excess cement. “The dual-cure aspect made removing excess cement simple,” shared Dr. Michael Pardonnet, and Eyad Haidar, DMD, said the tack cure feature allowed him to clean excess cement at the right time.

Several dentists commended the material for its ease of cleanup, with Dr. Mark Vidor saying he had less stress over excess cleanup with this “great cement.” Dr. David Martin commented, “I like the way it cleaned up,” but added that he would like to see more shades. Dr. Martin also praised the handling of the material, saying he liked its flowability best, and added, “I liked it with zirconia restorations.”

Bond Strength

According to Pentron, Breeze RMGI has high flexural and compressive strength for zirconia, PFM, and metal crowns. Dr. Manoukian discovered that Breeze RMGI is an excellent cement for full-contour zirconia that “provided the bonding needed in less than ideal situations.” This product, Dr. Manoukian added, will make the difference for retention in cases involving short second molars. Dr. Fleming also said the product “seems to work great when cementing zirconia crowns, which has been hit-or-miss in the past.” She described a case where she cemented a short clinical crown on No. 18 with minimal occlusal clearance, and concluded, “Having the zirconia crown remain cemented is paramount to a successful restoration in this situation.”

“It appears to harden reasonably,” shared Dr. Janet Williams, who admitted that it’s “too soon to declare it will not ultimately debond.” Dr. Spindel added, “I think it performs well, so I would certainly consider purchasing it.”

Overall Satisfaction

Dr. Morse concluded that Pentron’s Breeze RMGI seemed to work very well, and the cementation process was very fast. He was one of many evaluators who said they would recommend this product to colleagues. Dr. Pardonnet called it the best RMGI cement he has ever used, and Dr. Fleming said she has already purchased the product to seat her zirconia crowns. “I feel that my zirconia crowns will adhere better when I use this easy-to-use Breeze RMGI,” Dr. Fleming concluded.
