Triton
A single-step, all-in-1 irrigant that provides effi cient tissue dissolution and debris removal without using EDTA and CHX and allowing for a lower concentration of NaOCl
Preparing for a root canal treatment can be a cumbersome process, to say the least. Dr. Charley Cheney, for example, relies on his assistants to draw up different syringes of EDTA, smear layer remover, and NaOCl, a multistep, time-consuming process. And, with multiple syringes on the procedure tray, dentists need to be careful to use the right syringe at the right time.
Despite many advancements in endodontic techniques and tools, root canal irrigation has remained a multistep, multiproduct process—until now. Brasseler developed an all-in-1 irrigation solution, Triton, that replaces all those syringes with a single-step, multifunctional solution—the first irrigant to deliver the benefits of NaOCl, EDTA, and CHX in 1 solution.
Triton’s formulation works differently from traditional irrigants or other advanced 2:1 solutions by eliminating the use of EDTA and CHX and using a lower concentration of NaOCl, reducing chair time and procedural steps, and cutting the number of irrigant syringes down to one. Triton is designed for effective and efficient tissue dissolution and debris removal, often requiring lower volumes of irrigation solution with maximum clinical efficiency.
After testing Triton for DPS, Dr. Cheney praised the solution’s ease of use and “great simplicity” and said every case was a success. With only 1 easy-to-load syringe needed, Dr. Francis Jacobyansky no longer needs to wonder if he’s using the right syringe and added, “I don’t know if this is the holy grail of irrigants, but it is certainly a step closer.”
Ease of Use
Calling Triton an easy-to-use, all-in-1 solution that produces good results, Dr. Jon Lundquist said it is “easy to dispense into the syringe” and “took less time and was worthwhile to use in cleansing the canals.” Hoping to optimize efficiency and ease of loading the syringe, Dr. Brandon Schiffner said Triton “improved both.” The easy, efficient, and “unique delivery” is what Dr. Jonathan Dubin liked most, especially because it “allowed my assistant to load and deliver irrigant easily with no mixing required.” Dr. Jeffrey Moskovic enjoyed not having to mix the irrigation solution, and Dr. Cheney was impressed by the “luer-locking draw-up system to 1 syringe.” Dr. Brandon Tiek said he “loves the simplicity and the packaging” but recommended a glass bottle instead of plastic.
Irrigation Efficacy
With a lower concentration of NaOCl and a patentpending blend of surfactants with gentle chelating agents, Triton dissolves organic tissue faster than traditional NaOCl while simultaneously removing inorganic debris in just 1 step, according to Brasseler. The solution is less cytotoxic than 6% NaOCl with EDTA and more effective at removing the smear layer.
“Tissue dissolution was very efficient and reduces dentinal mud formation at the apex,” reported Dr. Grace Chu, an endodontist who said she used Triton to effectively dissolve vital pulp tissue and reduce the use of RC prep in a C-shaped canal. After using Triton for multiple cases, including retreats, Dr. Schiffner said that success was evident on postoperative radiographs. Dr. Lundquist reported “a good result” when he opened up a “hot tooth,” worked the canals, and used the all-in-1 solution. Using Triton for all root canals “with total satisfaction,” Dr. Dubin said he especially appreciates the ease of mixing the solution, which uses less chlorite, and “efficiently dissolves tissue, disinfects, and prepares the canals.” Dr. Antony DeSantis said he is “more confident in the removal of debris and disinfection of root canals while cleaning and shaping” with Triton. “It dissolved debris more effectively than other solutions and eliminated the need for a separate canal lubricant in most canals,” he added.

Efficiency: Time & Materials
Hoping that Triton would speed up procedure time and help him achieve better end results after root canal treatments, Dr. Ken Schwartz was impressed with the results and said, “It seems to do the trick.” With no need for multiple irrigants, Dr. Moskovic and Dr. Lundquist agreed that it saved time, and Dr. Chu found it “more convenient to use 1 solution all throughout the procedure.” Dr. Charles Crowl said it “made the endodontic visit a bit smoother and faster,” and Dr. Tiek concluded, “It provided a safe and very effective all-in-1 solution that helped eliminate items on the tray and streamline the procedure to save time.” Describing Triton as “a very effective and efficient solution that streamlined my root canal procedures,” Dr. DeSantis suggested temperature stability that would eliminate the need for refrigeration.
Overall Satisfaction
Many evaluators gave Triton rave reviews for its all-in-1 convenience and efficacy, including Dr. Jacobyansky, who said, “I look forward to adding it to my armamentarium.” Concluding that Triton “is the answer for our root canal irrigation,” Dr. Dubin said he would purchase and recommend the irrigant in the future and added, “It is a product we will incorporate into our routine.”
