ProMate CL
This lightweight cordless hygiene handpiece combines state-of-the-art features with exceptional clinician comfort, long-lasting power, and optimal access and mobility
Oh, my aching !” Any hygienist could easily fill in that blank at the end of a long day, especially after struggling with a heavy handpiece, fighting with an unwieldy cord, and contorting body parts to navigate the oral cavity. For Amber Metro-Sanchez, her wrists take the brunt of the punishment as she battles cord drag from traditional handpieces.
Thankfully for Metro-Sanchez and her fellow hygienists, Pac-Dent designed a lightweight, ergonomic handpiece that polishes efficiently without the constraint of heavy cords. Designed for optimal comfort during prophylaxis, the ProMate CL Cordless Hygiene Handpiece offers dual-mode speed control with 6 settings, a Bluetooth foot pedal, and compatibility with all prophy angles. “This is by far the best cordless handpiece I’ve ever tried,” said MetroSanchez. “It’s perfectly balanced and lightweight and allowed me to polish without any wrist discomfort.”
ProMate CL’s battery charge lasts all day long, which Metro-Sanchez called “absolutely outstanding.” It actually “lasted much longer than the company indicated. I was able to use it continuously for several weeks before recharging,” she added.
Clinician Comfort
The 3.8-oz ProMate CL is 20% lighter than leading low-speed handpieces and provides optimal ergonomic balance and grip, according to PacDent. “The handpiece is so light and easy to use,” shared Cheri Lindstrom, who said the weight created by a dragging hose was “solved 100%” with this handpiece. Several other evaluators commended its light weight and ease of use, including April Curtis, who said it reduced back and shoulder strain; Amy Corder, who said it prevents hand fatigue; and Jennifer Porter, who likes its portability and decreased wrist fatigue. Previously challenged with both wrist and arm fatigue, Amy Lieberman said ProMate CL had “great functionality and was kinder on the body.”
Cordless Design
ProMate CL’s cordless design improves access and mobility for clinicians, allowing them to move freely without dragging or dangling cords. Sarah Hester’s previous handpiece cable was too short to use comfortably, but the ProMate CL allowed her to “use the handpiece without dragging a cable across the patient,” and “navigate more quickly throughout the mouth” with any prophy angle. Porter was able to “reach any position comfortably,” and Corder said she “loved being free of hoses” and called the handpiece “great for accessing mandibular anterior linguals.” Laura Inman agreed that it’s “easier to use than a corded handpiece,” and Amy Sherman called it a welcome change compared to a handpiece cord that tangled constantly.
In addition to being easier on clinicians, the ProMate CL is comfortable and less intimidating for patients. Describing it as “more functional for patients with disabilities who must sit upright or in wheelchairs,” Lieberman said, “It was particularly helpful and less frightening to my patients with special needs, as it resembled their electric toothbrushes.” Lindstrom said it’s easy to use for pediatric prophylaxis, and Corder found it “great for kids since it’s very quiet and non-threatening.” Describing the sound as “soothing compared to traditional handpieces,” Metro-Sanchez said, “The ultra-quiet function puts my anxious young patients at ease.”

Power, Speed, & Battery Life
The ProMate CL features exceptional power with a user-friendly design, including a quick-touch on/off button, dual-mode speed control with 6 speed settings that can be controlled by a wireless foot pedal or the handpiece, and a long battery life, which Hester says “lasts all day.”
Describing it as a “very powerful, compact, and useful handpiece that seems to take any prophy angle,” Inman said these are all “key factors in choosing a new handpiece.” When asked about potential improvements, she suggested relocating the power button to avoid touching it accidentally, and Hester recommended a different color for the power button. “It’s easy to control the speed and is generally more gentle,” said Curtis, who appreciated the handpiece’s ability to “remember the speed when I turn it off to go get more paste.” Porter said it has “good rotational speed,” and Metro-Sanchez “loved having the option of using a foot pedal or controlling with a single-touch button” and said the 6 speeds cover all her needs.
Overall Satisfaction
Among the many features that contributed to ProMate CL’s DPS Best Product rating is its CDC-compliant, steam autoclavable outer sheath. For Metro-Sanchez, “this handpiece makes infection control a breeze. Removing the autoclavable sheath and wiping it down is quick and easy.” She added, “This product empowers me; it has every feature I’m looking for, and I’m looking forward to using it every day.” Corder called it “a definite game-changer over traditional corded handpieces,” and Porter wondered, “Where has this been all my career?”
