Dental Implant
Breakthrough design features and bone-condensing properties produce exceptional initial stability and restorative outcomes with Nobel Biocare’s NobelActive implant.
Now available from Nobel Biocare, NobelActive’s “breakthrough implant design” provides high initial stability, “revolutionary bone-condensing capacity,” redirecting capability, built-in platform shifting, and dual-function prosthetic connection.
NobelActive’s expanding tapered body with double- variable thread design and apical drilling blades produces high initial stability, even in compromised bone. While conventional self-tapping implants scrape away bone, NobelActive slices through and progressively condenses and repositions bone during minimally invasive insertion. This expands treatment options by enabling changes in implant direction for optimal restorative orientation.
NobelActive’s unique dual-function prosthetic connection allows for prosthetic flexibility, and its horizontal surface provides a platform for NobelProcera implant bridges. Abutments are securely positioned by the hexagonal interlocking of the internal conical connection. The built-in platform shifting, apparent with the abutment in place, is designed to enhance soft-tissue integration and provide more natural esthetics.
NobelActive is recommended for experienced users. The manufacturer strongly recommends (and offers) clinician training.
Eight dentists, all long-term users of NobelActive, participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation, rating such features as implant design, bone-condensing properties, initial stability, and restorative outcome.
Ease of Use and Manufacturer Support
Ease of use of the NobelActive implant was rated as excellent by 4 evaluators and as very good by 4. One dentist said “takes some training, but easy to use once you’re trained,” another said “not a basic implant for inexperienced clinicians,” and a third said “very efficient and fast, especially with the hand driver.”
Manufacturer support was rated as excellent by 4 evaluators and as very good by 4. One dentist said “the research and technical information exceeds my needs.”
Implant Design and Flexibility
When asked to comment on NobelActive’s design, 1 evaluator said “well thought out” and another said “it has all the features I currently need.” One dentist said “there are issues with the fit on the impression post inside the implant, as well as the connection of the abutments. It’s not easy to position.” Design was rated as excellent by 7 evaluators and as very good by 1.
Flexibility was rated as excellent by 6 evaluators and as very good by 2. One dentist noted that “the Zirconia and titanium abutments are great.”
Bone-Condensing Properties and Soft-Tissue Integration
Six evaluators rated the NobelActive’s bone-condensing properties as excellent and 2 rated them as very good. One evaluator called this feature “outstanding,” and another dentist said the implant “condenses and also is kind to the bone.”
Of 6 evaluators who evaluated softtissue integration, 3 rated it as excellent, 1 rated it as very good, and 2 rated it as good. One dentist noted that “the immediate temporization allows for excellent soft-tissue preservation.”
Initial Stability
Initial stability of the NobelActive implant was rated as excellent by 6 evaluators and as very good by 2. One dentist said “unbelievable!” Another evaluator called it “amazing,” adding that “marginal bone is very stable at 1 year.”
Restorative Outcome
Restorative outcome with the NobelActive was rated as excellent by 5 evaluators, as very good by 2, and as good by 1.
