Having placed Nobel Biocare implants since he began practicing periodontics, Dr. Juan C. Rodriguez knows the brand well enough to recognize a notable upgrade when he sees one. Enter the S series. It pairs implant body designs backed by decades of clinical success with a single prosthetic connection across all implant sizes—meaning fewer parts to stock and a more streamlined workflow.
“It gives us exactly what we needed: 1 platform across multiple implant widths,” said Dr. Rodriguez, who practices at Hagan Rodriguez Periodontics and Implants in East Lansing, MI.
“I feel the needs of private practitioners are met by this system,” he added. “My cases are more predictable than ever before in terms of crestal bone stability, long-term implant success, and reduction in incidence of peri-implantitis. The S series system allows me to keep a reduced stock, hence saving on overhead, which is always beneficial.”
Primary Stability and Accurate Fit
The S series implant body is manufactured from cold-worked pure titanium, with thicker collar walls on wider implants for added strength. The connection is designed for a precise, gap-free fit, with platform shifting that helps preserve marginal bone and a tight seal for minimizing the risk of bacterial leakage.
“Having a single restorative platform makes it easy for cover screws or healing abutments if we change the implant diameter during placement,” Dr. Ravichandra Juluri said. Dr. Robert Naples appreciated having “1 platform and a strong implant body in all diameters,” and Dr. Taylor Goggins found it “helped streamline placement of multiunit abutments.”
Dr. Joseph Lee noted that the S series has “tested mechanical properties to permit narrow connection,” and he mentioned how the system offers a “new NP (narrow platform) prosthetic lineup with a more favorable emergence profile to promote long-term peri-implant tissue health.”
“I also commend Nobel Biocare on their efforts to improve restorative connections, starting with healing abutments,” Dr. Rodriguez said. Dr. Luis A. Perez reported, “I was able to use a wider implant to achieve primary stability with the same crown,” and Dr. Andres E. Biaggi praised its “great torque and primary stability for immediate loading.”
Minimized Prosthetic Inventory
According to Nobel Biocare, the S series has 65% fewer multiunit abutment sizes compared to traditional implant systems, which simplifies inventory, planning, and training in the clinical workflow.
“The single platform for different diameter implants reduces the number of ‘parts’ needed in inventory,” Dr. Ronnie Davidson II said. For Dr. Juluri, “The single platform size made restorative and surgical inventory easy,” and Dr. Rodriguez shared that “due to reduced inventory, I am a lot less anxious looking at upcoming cases and whether or not I have compatible multiunit abutments or other restorative components.”
Dr. Lee also liked the “single prosthetic connection for all,” along with the narrow abutment features and no longer needing to change his entire implant surgical kit. Particularly in All-on-X cases, Dr. Goggins mentioned needing fewer separate multi-unit abutment sizes in his inventory.
Dr. Dylan Everett pointed out how the S series helped streamline his practice and reduce inventory costs, not only for his own office but also for referral offices.
“We noticed fewer calls confirming the platform size,” he said. “It has helped referrals and my own team by only having to worry about a single type of connection vs multiple.”
Prosthetic Versatility
Within the S series, NobelActive S offers high primary stability in soft bone, NobelParallel S provides versatility across indications, and NobelReplace S keeps placement simple—all with the same restorative steps. Clinicians also choose between 2 surfaces: TiUltra, a multizone, ultrahydrophilic surface, and TiUnite, Nobel Biocare’s original anodized surface.
“Each of the S series implants allows for any situation,” Dr. Lee said. “It’s the choice of the user, so the flexibility is there.” He also appreciated “implant surface selection based on the clinician’s choice.”
“We have moved to this implant for the majority of our cases,” Dr. Davidson said, noting how it simplified his practice workflows, and Dr. Everett said that it “reduced the need for excessive inventory of different platform sizes.”
Dr. Eric Piscopo found that it offered “more uniform instrumentation,” though a few evaluators noted that they would like a wider variety of healing abutments.
Because the platform stays the same across sizes, Dr. Perez can “interchange prosthetics even when replacing the implants”—whether he switches sizes at placement or after an early or late failure.
Overall Satisfaction
Dr. Rodriguez said he is “extremely happy” with the variety of implant solutions Nobel has rolled out in recent years, and as Dr. Piscopo put it, the S series is “overall an advancement in what is already excellent technology.” Dr. Biaggi agreed: “Nobel Biocare keeps on improving their systems in a great way, and this is a great product.”
