Quick-Stat FREE is a highly effective clear hemostatic agent with a short hemostasis time 

It’s not often that all 6 dentists in a practice are “uniformly impressed” with a product’s improvement over their previous material, but such is the case in Dr. William Lieberman’s pediatric practice, where quick hemostasis is an absolute necessity. Previously needing to use 2 different hemostasis products, neither of which sufficed on its own, Dr. Lieberman was thrilled to find that Vista Apex’s Quick-Stat FREE combines “the best parts of the 2” previous materials he was using—quick, effective bleeding control with no staining.

Formulated for maximum effectiveness and improved penetration, Quick-Stat FREE controls bleeding without staining or visible residue and provides hemostasis 20% faster than other clear hemostatic agents, according to Vista Apex. For Dr. Lieberman, “better, stronger, faster and non-staining” translates into “decreased treatment time and improved results” that have made “a huge difference in our anterior restorative technique.” He calls Quick-Stat FREE “a real game-changer for a pediatric practice” and “a significant improvement over what was available before.”

Dispensing & Cleanup

For ease of use, Quick-Stat FREE is dispensed with prefilled syringes and Stat-Flo padded applicator tips. The material is easy to clean up with little to no mess. Describing the hemostatic agent as “quick and easy to use,” Dr. Rory Sprouse said light/moderate bleeding is stopped “with just a couple swipes.” For Dr. William Simon it provided “good hemostasis with a fluid material that was easy to use and clear,” and Dr. Daniel Hwang said it “gets the job done with minimal mess and rinses off very easily.” Several evaluators described Quick-Stat FREE as a time saver, including Dr. Wendy Lu, who said it was easy to apply. Dr. Willard Hankins pointed out the “lack of additional cleanup of coagulated blood,” and Dr. William Whittle said Quick-Stat FREE made appointments “easier and quicker.” On the other hand, Dr. Roger Urlaub said he had trouble dispensing the gel deep into the sulcus in interproximal areas.

Hemostasis Speed and Efficacy

A unique Astringent Hybrid Technology allows Quick-Stat FREE to penetrate surfaces and effectively plug cut capillaries. The manufacturer says it provides hemostasis 20% faster than other clear hemostatic agents. Ideal for impressions, restorations, and crown and bridge procedures, Quick-Stat FREE is a 25% aluminum chloride hemostatic gel and the first clear agent with a shortened hemostasis time. Unlike their better-known counterparts, aluminum chloride agents exert their hemostatic effect through a chemical reaction with blood, maximizing effectiveness. Dr. Bilyana Tesic said she was “surprised by QuickStat FREE in a good way.” She was most impressed with its handling and speed and how it “stops bleeding almost instantaneously on first contact and makes taking impressions (digital or otherwise) faster, more predictable, and easier.” Dr. Alfred Bassin appreciated not needing to retake any impressions when using Quick-Stat FREE, which “worked well in every application; better than what I had been using.”

Multiple evaluators agreed with Dr. Sprouse when he said that Quick-Stat FREE “did a great job of stopping bleeding very quickly in many different cases.” Dr. Hwang commented, “It worked as advertised in promoting hemostasis quickly and efficiently” on subgingival margins where achieving adequate hemostasis was previously difficult with his usual aluminum chloride agent and cord. “It worked very well to control hemorrhage around deep margins,” reported Dr Whittle, while Dr. William Campbell would like to see longer lasting hemostasis.

Noting that Quick-Stat FREE is especially useful for crown procedures, Dr. William Kane Fulton said it made things easier during a crown preparation on a 2nd molar with high distal tissue. When subgingival bleeding occurred during the prepping process, Dr. Fulton applied the hemostatic agent and explained, “After a minute or 2 with Quick-Stat FREE, I was scanning.”

Lack of Staining

“It’s an awesome product that solves the problem of bleeding without staining the soft tissues,” said Dr. Fulton, who likely agrees with Vista Apex’s description of Quick-Stat FREE as “the clear choice, especially for the esthetic zone.” Dr. Tesic agreed, calling it “super fast with an easy to-handle gel consistency and suitable for use in highly esthetic cases.” Dr. Urlaub’s favorite feature was “the fact that it’s an astringent that’s able to control bleeding rapidly without staining tissues or teeth.” Despite favoring ferric sulfate agents because they have “a little bit quicker onset,” Dr. Hwang concluded that “the trade offs favor clear solutions.”

Overall Satisfaction

Evaluator feedback about speed, efficacy, and lack of staining was overwhelmingly positive, with Dr. Hwang declaring that Quick-Stat FREE is “an effective and economical product that we’ll likely incorporate into my practice.” Calling it “effective in every case in which it was used,” Dr. Hankins determined, “It is a very useful addition to my armamentarium.” Dr Bassin said it exceeded his expectations, and Dr. Sprouse told DPS, “It quickly became my go-to product in most fixed and operative cases.” Dr. Lieberman said he will recommend Quick-Stat FREE to colleagues because “we like to share good news,” and Dr. Tesic summed up her experience by saying, “I think we have a winner. Let’s just say I didn’t miss my old hemostatic agent.”
