A one-of-a-kind interchangeable magnification loupe that allows the clinician to select the optimal magnification power for each procedure
Would a single pair of loupes that adjusts to 4 different magnification levels make your practice life easier? Could you benefit from being able to easily switch telescopes mid-procedure, or from being able to upgrade your magnification power without buying new loupes? Orascoptic believes you can, and it has sought to address this unmet need in dentistry with its OmniOptic interchangeable magnification loupe. Launched in 2017, OmniOptic allows the clinician to select the best magnification power for each procedure.
Dr. Lewis Nguyen, one of the dentists who evaluated the OmniOptic loupes for DPS, said he likes the ability to quickly change the magnification without having to put on a different loupe. The 4-in-1 option, according to Dr. Nguyen, makes OmniOptic a versatile product. In fact, if he had to choose only one pair of loupes, he announced, “This would be the one.”
Adjustable Magnification
With 4 interchangeable magnification powers (2.5x, 3.5x, 4.5x, and 5.5x), OmniOptic is ideal for users looking to increase their magnification without having to purchase a new loupe system. This is exactly why Dr. Stephen Glick purchased these loupes, and he found that the ability to change magnification without changing the frames was perfect for his needs. “I like the ability to change magnification easily during a procedure,” Dr. Lisa Gushin remarked, adding that the convenience is crucial when doing a large filling that suddenly becomes a pulpectomy. She continued, “I think anyone that does a lot of root canals and crowns will appreciate the ability to have various magnification choices with the same pair of loupes."
Image Clarity, Focus, Field Size
The higher power magnifications improve visualization, which in turn aids in diagnostic abilities and ensures accurate procedures. Dr. M. Scott Smith explained, “Not only does [high-power magnification] make visualization better during restorative appointments, it greatly enhances diagnostic abilities.” He said it’s exciting to see areas magnified 3 or 4 times, his patients appreciate the extra visual acuity a high magnification system provides, and the Orascoptic dental loupe also greatly enhances his endodontic skills.
Dr. Jason Hsiao said his field of vision and clarity with the OmniOptic loupes were better than his previous loupes, and Dr. John Kerwin remarked, “[I like the] excellent field of vision. Performance is greatly improved doing all procedures.” One dentist reported that the thick rim blocks some of the view outside the magnification, while Dr. Vrushali Sharma said the high magnification proved to be indispensable in a patient with a Class II DO on No. 2 with limited mouth opening and heavy buccal musculature. “I would not have been able to access it without this product!” Dr. Sharma concluded.
For Dr. Tina Foss, the OmniOptic provides both the magnification and the light that she needs to see the tooth very clearly. “The clarity helps to ensure that decay is removed and margins are perfect,” she explained. She shared a case where the high magnification was critical in removing a small root tip. “I could see it and manipulate it in order to get it out,” Dr. Foss said. She added, “[We] shouldn’t practice without them! It makes dentistry fun again.”
Comfort, Weight, Fit
The OmniOptic system supports the HDL 2.5 Macro, HDL 3.5, HDL 4.5 and HDL 5.5 telescopes and is available as a through-the lens configuration on Orascoptic’s Legend, Rave, Rydon, Victory and XV1 frames. The weights range from 2.02 ounces in the 2.5x to 2.9 ounces in the 5.5x.
Noting that his previous loupes were too heavy, Dr. Hsiao said the OmniOptic loupes are lighter, more comfortable, and well-balanced. “Lighter weight makes for less fatigue” he said. “I have less headaches at the end of the day.” A few dentists suggested that the loupes could weigh less, including Dr. Sharma, who commented, “The light on the loupes makes it slightly bulky,” and Dr. Glick, who said it was too heavy on his nose when the light was added.
Dr. Hsiao pointed out another advantage to owning the OmniOptic loupes. “It’s good to know that if the frames break they can just send a new frame, and all I need to do is snap the magnification back in. Less down time the better!” A couple dentists reported that they would like to see the on/off switch on the battery improved.
Overall Satisfaction
Calling the Orascoptic dental loupes extremely easy to accommodate into practice, Dr. Smith said he’s purchased 3 sets of the OmniOptic loupes and wouldn’t practice without them. Dr. Terry James, who invested in the OmniOptic after his original loupes were stolen, decided, “I think I’m set for life, assuming they aren’t lost, stolen, or broken.” For Dr. Sharma, the new loupes allow her to diagnose and treat better so she has happier patients, and she said the investment in OmniOptic is worth it. And perhaps Dr. Gushin summed up this evaluation best with her remarks: “Orascoptic has outdone itself! These loupes are amazing.”
