One minute, one step, one solution—that sums up the main advantages of Air Techniques’ Monarch Surface Disinfectant Wipes, which were recently evaluated by 15 hygienists for Dental Product Shopper. According to the manufacturer, these wipes will clean and disinfect hard surfaces in a minute with a single step. As one evaluator commented, the Monarch wipes are “very convenient, cleaned well, and stayed wet.”
Size and Strength/Durability of Wipe
Manufacturer Description: To cover more surface area, the 7" x 9" wipe is 56% larger than a standard disinfectant wipe. Because 1 wipe cleans and disinfects a larger area, fewer wipes are needed, saving time and money.
Evaluator Feedback: The size of the Monarch wipe received mixed reviews, partly dependent on the size of the wipe the hygienist was using before this product. Six evaluators liked the larger size best, with comments such as, “[I was] able to use 1 wipe as opposed to several,” and “I love the larger size wipe.” A couple hygienists suggested, “I wish they were bigger in size and a little more textured,” and “Wipes seemed small.”
Some remarks about durability were, “[I liked] the durability of the wipe best,” “[I] wish these wipes were a little thicker,” “I liked the strength of the wipe best,” and “A few did tear against the container’s opening.” A Georgia evaluator described the texture as, “scratchy not smooth. It took some getting used to.” Yet another hygienist suggested, “Maybe 1 side [could] have a ‘scrubby’ side for tough-to-remove debris.”
Cleaning Effectiveness and Ability to Stay Wet

The solution is effective against odor-causing bacteria and is compatible with a variety of surfaces.
Evaluator Feedback: When asked what she liked best, an evaluator from Indiana replied, “[I was] able to scrub surfaces and get them clean—superior.” This same hygienist liked the “pleasant scent” and said, “I love the 1-minute factor.” A Wisconsin evaluator mentioned, “[I] had to scrub to remove debris,” another recommended “more product on the wipe,” while a third said the wipes are “easy to use” and liked the “security knowing they are effective.”
When asked to rate the ability of the wipe to stay wet, some comments were, “[I liked] disinfecting in 1 minute,” “[It] became dry very fast,” “Perfect amount of liquid on wipes,” and “We had to turn the container upside down to keep the wipes wet enough.” A Texas hygienist said, “[The] clear liquid did not appear to damage countertops.”
Ease of Removal from Container and Storage Convenience

Evaluator Feedback: When asked what they liked best, 3 evaluators mentioned the ease of removal from the container and 2 liked the “convenient container.” Some comments were, “The wipes did easily slide out of the container,” “[I] really liked the container and ease of use,” and “[I recommend a] larger opening in the container to remove wipes more easily.” A Connecticut hygienist who rated the easy removal as “good” and the storage convenience as “excellent,” shared her thoughts. “The size of the container was on the thinner/taller side and very compact, which made it easy to use in areas with limited counter space and for storage areas, as well.”
Overall Satisfaction
In addition to the features that were rated individually, some other comments were, “I like the eco-friendly aspect,” “[They] have a very light and pleasant scent,” and “[I recommend] offering a refill roll of wipes so we have the option of reusing the same plastic container.”
Seven evaluators said they would definitely or probably purchase the wipes, and 8 would probably or definitely recommend them to colleagues. “Our entire office really loved the product,” shared a hygienist who rated her overall satisfaction as very good. A California evaluator declared, “Monarch wipes worked well—if not better—than most I have tried. You have a winner...keep them the way they are.”
