The SomnoDent FusionTM is a new COATTM (Continuous Open Airway Therapy) device made for patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. The FusionTM is a sleep apnea treatment designed for comfort. The patient wears this device all night, hopefully every night, and that means it needs to be engineered in a way that will make wearing easier on the muscles and joints of the temporomandibular region. To that end, the SomnoDent FusionTM has two titration technologies that aid optimal fitting. The first is the SomnoDent classic lug design. The classic maxillary lug allows for small, incremental adjustments. To complement the lug, the FusionTM has introduced a removable wing that can be used to make full, one millimeter adjustments. The flexibility afforded by these two technologies makes the FusionTM more comfortable for the patient, and will hopefully make them more likely to maintain compliance. This video covers step-by-step instructions for changing out the removable wings. The wings are held into the device by a metal retaining clip. This keeps them secure while in the mouth. The wings are designed to be difficult to remove by pulling. The SomnoDent FusionTM comes with a key to make it easy to adjust the wings without sacrificing stability. When attaching the wing, take notice of the positioning of the flat side of the wing and the calibration number on the flat side of the wing. When removing the SomnoDent FusionTM wing, take care not to remove the wing from the buckle surface. For easy removal, insert the pin from the lingual surface and leverage the end against the occlusal surface of the device. This way, the wing will slide off easily.
