In Dr. Volinder Dhesi’s dental practice, where about 40 to 50 indirect restorations are placed each month, it is important for each dentist to use materials that consistently deliver high-quality restorative results. “But some materials can be more technique-sensitive, making it more difficult for multiple dentists to achieve the same success,” Dr. Dhesi noted.
With that, Dr. Dhesi and his dental team have relied on Dentsply Sirona’s Calibra resin cements and Prime&Bond active universal adhesive for nearly a year, reporting zero fractures, failures, or debonds. “Both materials are very versatile and easy to use,” he said. “Now, we can maintain a simple workflow that suits all our individual restorative needs, all while enabling excellent adhesion in virtually every case.”
Remarkable Versatility and Simplicity
Calibra Universal+ is a dual-cure, high-strength self-adhesive resin cement indicated for the permanent cementation of many types of restorations. It features a wide tack-cure window up to 10 seconds as well as a 45-second gel phase to simplify excess cement removal, and it also can be used with an adhesive for enhanced bond strength.
“With any full-coverage posterior crowns, Calibra resin cements have been fantastic and work equally well for zirconia and lithium disilicate restorations,” Dr. Dhesi said, adding that the materials also are extremely forgiving during cleanup.
Calibra resin cements are available in 5 highly esthetic shades: translucent, light, medium, bleach, and opaque. Dr. Dhesi reaches for translucent the most. “Especially on some onlays where we double the margins, we don’t tend to see any white lines,” he shared. “That seamless transition of color has been a tremendous benefit of using Calibra resin cements.”
A Better Bond for Stronger Results
When it comes to zirconia restorations, Dr. Dhesi always uses Prime&Bond active as a primer to create a strong bond before cementing the restoration. Especially in cases where greater adhesion is required, he can apply this advanced universal adhesive to the patient’s restoration and their tooth. “It provides reliable performance, even with varying moisture levels, which is important in any bonding procedure,” Dr. Dhesi shared.
Prime&Bond active also provides low film thickness and self-leveling properties to ensure an accurate fit, and its active moisture control supports consistent adhesion. “I typically micro etch the zirconia, try in the restoration as needed, clean the surface of the restoration, and then apply Prime&Bond active,” Dr. Dhesi explained. “From there, we apply the Calibra resin cement. This process really optimizes our restorative outcomes and reduces the risk of failure.”
